Hinman project - new 13 story hotel at 10 Ionia

Definitely one of those views that may leave you a bit speechless in-person. I just happen to glance up going north on Ionia and Fulton and saw how just at 2 barely completed stories, this building left me confused as to what city I was in for a second. Its impact visually at this intersection was just unreal.

 And there are 11 stories yet to go!

Drove by it a few days ago myself and had the same thought. Even two stories and leaving it as is is a massive change for the streetscape

I have a feeling this building will be my favorite in the city when it's done.   I can't wait to photograph it when it is.

Such a great looking addition to the city. I'm glad they took the time to do this right.

It would have been easy to put an underwhelming 4 story triangle of condos in there.....

This construction method fascinates me.  No steel skeleton?  Reminds me of a house of cards...  How does it work?

It's structural precast concrete. Check out this site for what can be done We are fortunate to have a big time precaster Kerkstra here in town.

I'm loving this building more and more as it gets built. The renderings looked nice, but just seeing it in reality and the effect it already has on the street level is incredible

Love the building however I thought it may look squished from renderings. Now judging by the first cpl floors in I think it will look just fine.

The rendering that is on site seems to be way out of whack as far as proportions. Like they were running out of room so they just made the floors look smaller.

Definitely looks “squatty” in the rendering, I am hoping it doesn’t at all appear squatty from street level

I think you are over analyzing, which I tend to do myself.   I don't think rendering looks different, maybe the angle of your pic?

It’s the same as the rendering. Look at the first two floors and then look at the third floor.

I meant to say the third floor windows, my bad. When I looked at the rendering I had assumed the bottom of the windows started at the horizontal ledge, but looking a little closer it looks like it's (painted?) concrete.

The rendering doesn't look like it's 100% window, but instead has some maybe dark metal flashing that goes below the window?
