You take some great pictures, Mark.

I  really wish this was on Music Row itself instead of adjacent to it, maybe switch places with the new apartment building under construction. That would help bring music companies back on the Row and maybe jumpstart a trend. After all, what tourist wants to come to Nashville and go to Music Row just to look at a bunch of apartments? They should be able to see the companies that bring to market their favorite music-that is what the Row is for.

Speaking of which, why are there signs in Downtown and West End that give a direction arrow to Music Row but when you get there all you see are a couple of street signs that say "Music Square"? That is confusing for visitors.

As of this morning, Ernst Young has opened their Edge Center featuring 600 employees at the Spectrum Emery office building at 18th and Chet Atkins.  : )

There are wayfinding signs on 17th south of Division (in front of the Virgin site) and on 16th north of Wedgewood that say "Music Row".

Ernst & Young has singed-on a tenant at the new Spectrum Emery office building. Looks like EY may take up to 2 floors of space (63,000 sq. ft.), and would probably be about 200 employees. This is all in addition to their recent lease at 222 2nd Ave. South.

Also, WeWork appears to be snagging 60,000 sq. ft. at Spectrum Emery, which would be their third location in Nashville.  More behind the NBJ paywall here:

If both of these are the case, then only about 7,000 sq. ft. of space will still be available in the 130,000 sq. foot structure.

EY employs lots of young nerds. Should also cause more residential to be built around Midtown. On that note, I can't help thinking that several of the apartment towers announced in recent months were planned with some inside knowledge of "something big" or perhaps even knowledge that it would be Amazon. 

On a similar note, one of EY's competitors has a huge presence (operations) in Nashville. Deloitte employs nearly 2000 people in Hermitage and the ATT tower.

From the NBJ article:

- The expansion represents an investment of $22 million. 

- The new jobs, which are in addition to EY's existing 300 Nashville employees, are expected to be added over the next five years.

- EY Exceptional Delivery Growth Engine Center, which will include software development, design and testing, as well as professionals delivering technology enabled tax managed services for clients, according to the news release.

- Anticipate opening in August 2019, and the center will occupy over 60,000 square feet on two floors in a new office location on Music Row. It is expected to house over 600 employees, including 200 technology and 400 tax delivery professionals to support the delivery of tax services outsourced to EY.

Here is a part of the story that has info on the type of work.

Ernst & Young was strategic in it's choice of the SpectrumEmery office building for it's new 600 employee center:

"What we liked about this particular location is that it’s away from downtown," said Dan Thibault, the executive who led EY's search. "We wanted some separation from our 222 building. … It’s near Vanderbilt so it gives it a college feel and good vibe."

EY intends to have a relatively young workforce in Nashville and is targeting potential employees under 30, according to Thibault, who leads EY EDGE. As a result, officials wanted to put their new office in an area that was not only recognizable to young recruits, but also convenient. For instance, EY ruled out offices in Brentwood and Cool Springs over concerns that "young, single professionals" wouldn't want to travel to a suburban environment each day, Thibault said.

EY's new office is blocks from Vanderbilt University and just over a mile from Belmont University, giving the company access to large pools of potential employees. It's also within walking distance of several apartment and condo buildings, including Chicago-based Akara Partners' 420-unit Kenect Nashville, which is slated to open in late 2019.

"It seemed like there were a lot of housing options for a variety of prices within a close range," Thibault said. "It felt like the right kind of neighborhood for our target audience."
