Here are a couple more Downtown construction photos from this past weekend taken of the booming SW corner (a.k.a Green Water/Seaholm/Gables developments):

The SE corner (a.k.a. Rainey St. area) of Downtown is booming with residential projects as well.  Most of the big proposed projects are in this area and if they get built it will be a sea of cranes in 2015-2016:

Here's a picture of the two biggest hotel projects.  The JW Marriot in the center and the Westin on the left:

The third building in the UT medical center (now called the Dell Medical Center) has been announced.  It's a teaching hospital and construction is scheduled to start later this year.  The story is behind the Austin American-Statesman's pay wall, but here's a rendering from the article:

Here's a crappy picture I took yesterday.  It shows the under construction 38-story Green Water Residential Tower #1, 30-story Seaholm Residences Condo Tower and 37-story Bowie Apartment tower.  And two developers are planning to add five more towers of comparable height to this same area.

Here's a list of the biggest downtown buildings under construction and a list of most of the biggest proposed projects.

I wanted to limit the under construction list to buildings around 200' or more to keep the list shorter, and that conveniently worked out to a top 10 list.

I also wanted to limit the list of proposed projects to 20 to make it more manageable.  If I included all of the proposed projects the list would have probably had around 20 more buildings.  But most them would have been under 200' and not as significant as the ones listed.  I only listed projects that have had recent building permit activity or developer announcements and/or renderings released.  That should weed out dead or fantasy projects.

(I couldn't post my original list format because I couldn't figure out how to make the Word Doc table show up.  I had to convert it to two image files and host it instead.  If anyone knows how to post a table let me know.  Thanks.)

Here's the original residential proposal for the "70 Rainey" project in the list of proposed projects that I posted in post #37.  The Mexican Cultural Center/Art Museum next door to this proposal went all NIMBY.  So the city voted this proposal down.  But the developers are still moving forward with a project according to recent building permit activity.

Site prep has started for the duo branded 10 (11?) story Hotel Indigo/Holiday Inn Express, so I'm moving it to the Under Constuction thread.  This is on Red River where the drunk driver drove into crowd and killed three people during SXSW last week.

This is good news!  The developer of the Fairmont (a new tallest for Austin) have signed a $247 million construction contract with a builder.  This project has been delayed a few times, but recent quotes from the developer and architect suggest a May groundbreaking.  Utility relocation work has been ongoing since December or January.  But that work hasn't impacted the site from being used as a parking lot.  This lot has been the site MTV has used for the Woodie awards every year at SXSW.  Hopefully next year MTV will have to find another parking lot to pitch their tent.

Here are three of the four tallest residential towers under construction from left to right:  The Bowie, Seaholm Residences and 7 Rio.  More crane sections have been delivered to the Bowie site, so the cranes should be raised this weekend.

I'll stop my whining about the Waller Park Place project now.  They have a major NYC investor on board now, and this could be bigger than Trammell Crow's U/C Green Water project:

Here's an update about the 7th & Congress Hotel that I listed as about 35-stories in my list of proposed projects in post #37.  It will be close to that in height and will be an Aloft branded hotel.  Starwood's website has an April 2016 opening listed for it, and several renderings were released in a pdf document on the City of Austin's website:

It looks like site prep is underway for Austin's new tallest!  (The Austonian is 682' and this will be 691'.)The site was closed off to parking and fenced off this week; workers were on site drilling core samples as well.  And then...this sign went up:

Here's what it'll look like.  It's one block off I-35 downtown, so it'll make a huge impact as you drive through Austin.
