The tower crane for this one finally went up last weekend.  This project has been slow going because of the huge amount of excavation that was needed and the frequent heavy rains that we had over the past year.  Here's a construction photo from today:

When will this project really get completed?

I haven't seen any updated completion date.  But I would think we are looking at one and a half to two more years.  It's taken about two years to go from demo to where they are now.  But the excavation alone was huge project, and all the rain we have had during that time helped slow things down.

This project has a webcam now.  It's apparently not available to the general public.  But they update a time lapse video on their website each day with a photo taken that day.  Weak, but better than nothing.  After two years, this project has finally reached ground level.  The new tallest Independent tower is going up just out of view to the right.  Here's today's update from the time lapse:

Here's another view from the webcam.  It's up to maybe the 4th floor now.  Looking towards the upper right is the single crane for the 24-story Hotel ZaZa & Residences.  A little farther towards the upper right, two of the cranes working the 36-story Fairmont can be seen just poking above the Colorado tower.  The Fairmont is topped out, but the 139' spire hasn't been added yet.  Barely visible at the lower left, is the 58-story Independent.

They have a (low quality) non-public webcam that they were using to create a time lapse construction video by adding one photo per day.  I've linked to that already a couple times in this thread, but they seemed to have recently stopped updating the time lapse.  The best view of the progress is with the Independent's webcam.  You can see it rising at left-center behind the Independent.  They still have over 30 floors to go, so it won't be ready for move ins this year.
