This is one of my favorite projects.  It will have some of the best downtown views because it is going up on the eastern edge of downtown, and residences with a western view will be able to look down the river towards the Hill Country and see all of the high-rises going up along the river.

Site prep has been going slow on this, but there are no underground levels to excavate.  So it should start going up quick once construction starts (if it hasn't already).  The latest word on the tower crane is that it's planned to go up next weekend (07/11 to 07/13).  Here's the crane permit link.

Here's a shot of the site.  The official suits with golden shovels groundbreaking is tomorrow.  The crane in the background is for a 17-story Homewood Suites hotel.

Official groundbreakings are cheesy.  They should have the workers who actually know how to operate a shovel and have already been digging pose for the photos.

The actual height of this project has varied among the different iterations of the site plan and the FAA filing.  But the most recently updated site plan shows the height reduced by about 60'.  I updated the height in the thread title.

The weeds that re-grew after site prep stopped last summer have been cleared.  It's baby steps with this project.  This project is located at the end of the Rainey St. Entertainment District.  Those little houses are the bars and restaurants (but mostly bars) that make up two blockish entertainment area.  That U/C building on the left is the 17-Story Homewood Suites.  Behind the houses next to the Homewood Suites a ~15-story Cambria Hotel is planned and next to that a 7-story Hotel Rainey is planned.  And all around the Rainey St. district just outside of the view of this photo a total of at least 7 towers between 333' and 700' are planned.  In addition to the 7 proposed towers are some sites that will likely go vertical, but no specific projects have been announced.
