This is actually a pretty good idea if you can set the drone to a consistent rate of climb. You wouldn't need a tape measure as long as the height of the entire building, just the first several feet off the ground so that you could time how long it takes for the drone to climb 1 ft./3 ft./5 ft. - then you do the math. Couldn't get much more accurate than that.
