From a friend who helped design the SoBro... his firm is working on this project and they expect the existing buildings to be demolished next month with work to start in April.

Shuttle dropped off a block away.   I walked back to the Nissan Lot for a different angle off the Gateway Bridge.

Looking NE from the 8th and 21st floors of The Joseph Hotel:

This is a bit of a surprise: The Drury Plaza Hotel is actually opening as of 4 PM today. Not sure if the restaurant,, The Kitchen + Bar @ SoBro will be open as well.

I confess ignorance as I haven't stayed at a Drury since the late 1980s.  But isn't it a budget chain? Pretty surprising that a lower price hotel chain would even build a tower in a relatively new downtown. A testament to the popularity of Nashville as a burgeoning tourist draw. Of course, 'lower' price will be relative to the other hotels downtown.

I would hope the Little Gem, but even so, I have no faith that public works will be able to maintain and prune them properly to avoid them growing laterally into the street and sidewalk.

They're decent street trees because they have a more vertical tendency than the traditional Magnolia, and coupled with a bit faster growth rate than the previously mentioned, they'll do just fine.
