Dude. I'm the current Senior Minister at Fountain Street Church and this is the bane of my existence. Sleepy... underutilized fortresses like ours completely killing off activity on the street all day. And I've often been quite open about this matter with our members and lay leadership lol.

I was just in NYC last week and every evening we walked by St Bartholomew Church and they have a restaurant and outdoor dining area called Inside Park at St Bart's. The tent outside was packed at happy hour. Something similar for Fountain Street?

Oh I’m very familiar with that restaurant and church! I’ve had a few dreams that I think folks would support, but it would more so be a matter of finding the rights experts and professionals to carry the rest!

Lincoln Golf Course redevelopment was approved by Walker.  Looks like the old driving range on Alpine is getting clear cut.

There's a structure going up at 3392 E. Beltline (old Sunshine).anyone know what it is?  Looks like an office.  The other parcel to the south is owned by "Healthcommon LLC". Is that Metro?  Also the remaining parcel is owned by "Sunshine Ridge apartments". I wonder if we'll see more apartments coming soon.

That’s brilliant. activates the street, money for the church (and I’m sure it’s a very unique setting).

It was really cool. You could hear the people and music pouring out of the tent, which is raised up from the sidewalk in a raised garden area. We kept meaning to stop for a drink but we were on our way somewhere else every time we walked past.  Fountain Street doesn't have a patio per se' but maybe part of the street parking could be blocked off? Like restaurants have done? The lobby with the Spanish tile floor would be awesome to dine in.

Looks like the celebration hotel has come back to GRPC.

Also they are looking to demolish the Chilis and put an urgent care and Starbucks.  I would assume the current Starbucks would move so they could have drive-thru service, but It also wouldn't surprise me if there were two Starbucks within 100 feet of each other.

Wow, interesting. Any images out on the interwebs?

There’s details in the planning commission packet. I would post, but the file is being a bit wonky on my phone. It’s a 4 story, 119 room Home 2 hotel. If someone hasn’t posted them by tomorrow, I’ll grab screenshots.

There’s also new renderings of the new Sovengard building in the packet.

Oh, this is off Peregrine, wedged up near the car wash. I thought they were proposing a hotel behind Hopcat.

Looking at the plans, the Starbucks won't have a drive-thru (kind of surprising), but the other location is a bit of a parking nightmare. Also looks like it'll have mobile pickup order parking spots, etc.

It also looks like the building would have a retail space between Starbucks and the med center.

Remember when Chick fil a wanted to build in there and the drive thru was a big issue?

I thought it was more of an issue of cars backing up like most Chick-Fil-as.  Starbucks backs up too though.  The city of GR does not like drive-thrus.

https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2022/05/gun-lake-casinos-300m-expansion-to-feature-15-story-hotel-large-scale-aquadome.html

Gun Lake Casino is adding a 15 story hotel and Aquadome.

I was in the area recently and the casino and new interchange are massive.

I'd be interested to know how many people who visit here are actually outside of the region and state.  Given the location and how 131 isn't really a full highway south of Kalamazoo, I can't see many driving through the area.

I bet most visitors are from the surrounding area. I think the approach is pretty smart. Upscale hotel with 3 swimming pools (including cabanas and DJs) would make for a pretty enticing “staycation”. One of the pools will be a family pool, but I think they went the right way focusing on adults instead of building a great wolf lodge type attraction. The rendering is really nice too. We’ll played, Gun Lake!

I can't believe there aren't any renderings of the inside of the Aquadome. I've looked all over.

I bet they’ll release more details at the groundbreaking today. I’m excited to see the renderings as well.

Yeah they declined to offer more details until the groundbreaking.

I'm not much of a gambler, but that would be a fun staycation, especially in the dead of winter.  I would think you'd be able to see Gull Lake from the top floors of the tower and then corn in every direction.

They should take a page from Ada and make the gaming floors more family friendly, get the kids involved!

Yeah, just like kid height urinals, they should bring those slot machines right down to kid eye level!!

Gull Lake, did you mean Gun Lake?

Ope, yup.  Might be kind of a pretty view to the east with that and Yankee Springs.

They had a few additional renderings on the news.  The inside of the aquadom looked pretty cool, very Vegas/Tropical-esque.

It's really easy to screenshot and post that shit. Why am I one of the only ones to do it.

They must still be working on the concept. The renderings of the hotel are quite detailed (and looks really nice). Here’s the one rendering I could find inside the aquadome:

599A7384-5CFC-4AF4-83F0-1229EF7D54BF.jpeg

"The facility will include three pools, a swim-up bar, live palm trees and an entertainment stage with the capacity to host events of up to 2,400 people. "

I was just reading in the news that Michigan looked likely to pass a bill allowing swim-up bars. Glad to see they already have it in the plans, because that rendering just screams cocktails at the pool.

According to a recent article, one of the spots will be a restaurant "known and loved" by Michiganders. Anyone have any idea? Usually when I hear marketing spin like that, it's a dud. :) (or a small group of people love it and no one else has really heard of it)
