This just goes to prove that no matter how fair you are to people, that there will still always be complainers. Frankly, this group is bending over backwards to allow the traditional uses of these fairgrounds to remain without any loss of space or anything, and somehow there is still this loud opposition that doesn't want to budge on anything. It's baffling to me that such a dump serves as such a sacred place to so many people.

Frankly, although I don't have a problem with the flea market being there or anyone who enjoys that as a hobby, at this point, I'd get a demented sense of pleasure if the developers suddenly changed course and announced  that they were going to demolish the flea market instead.  As @henburg stated, this development group is going above and beyond to cater to these whiny, selfish a**holes, and they are making ZERO effort to even be civil in return.  So ya know what?  Screw them and the flea market.

Yeah, this dude is in my Nextdoor group and was truly awful during the transit debate.  Constantly spamming threads with his offer to provide anti transit signs and being an overall craphead.

A few butt hurt people are going to have a difficult time stopping a group of billionaires from developing a $250 million dollar project that will likely never see that much money thrown at the fairgrounds again.  Especially with the team and development group trying to work with them. Plus they are showing just how much of a group of whack jobs they really are. Money usually wins.

Glover knows the likelihood of the 10 acres being scrapped won’t pass, he is doing this to try and build support to get more than 13 members to vote no on the future votes required for demolition. 

Thats why it’s vey important to email all council members and show support for this deal.

Hey guys, this isn't related to soccer, but since this does involve the fairgrounds, I thought I would post this picture from 1968. All that stood of our humble skyline was L&C! Snodgrass might have been U/C at the time.

There's something about the Fairgrounds land that almost seems cursed.  We had one of NASCAR's best races for almost 30 years (Nashville and Bristol were NASCAR's two night races...and very-well loved)...but we somehow lost it.  Our state fair isn't even on the level of some county fairs and is dying a slow death.  "Fan Fair" moved downtown and is now the CMA Music Festival.  And...everything that's been proposed out there over the last few decades has never come to fruition.

For some reason, there is a group who wants it to stay in its decrepit state...and up until now, they've been able to keep it that way.  Part of me wishes the city / state would just throw their hands up and let the place crumble until these people realize they are fighting a losing cause.  To me, our MLS team is TOO GOOD for that location and the local idiots who want to keep their eyesore an eyesore.

Per this morning's discussion at the UP monthly meeting about Nashville's chances of hosting a World Cup game in 2026, I referred to the United Bid (USA, Mexico, Canada) document (500+ pages). 

This chart indicates which cities are competing for which slots in the schedule. Nashville is listed as a quarter finals candidate along with 10 other US cities for four spots.There are no Canadian or Mexican cities slotted for  quarters, semis or finals. by the way.

 

Along with the quarters, the selected city would also host up to six preliminary games per this chart....

So with 11 cities competing for four slots, that's about 3 cities vying  for each spot.

My rationale for further culling of the list, assumes that San Francisco is a given for one spot. The others are not so certain. I culled out four cities right away based on stadium location and/or hotel rooms and will not name them as we do not want to get into City vs. City 'stuff'. That would leave, in my opinion, six cities competing for three spots including Nashville.

So, add in the worldwide awareness of the unique Nashville brand, stadium proximity to abundant, top flight hotel rooms and the fact that Nashville knows how to throw a party, I like our chances.

And now, FIFA has officially ruled the Morocco bid to be 'high risk', but that doesn't disqualify them, so the decision will be left to a vote where, as I understand,  Morocco's vote, and every other nation's vote, counts the same as the US's does; i.e. the electoral college on steroids.

It was definitely weird watching it with the field still striped for football.

While we do already have a MLS bid which helped, it would be a lot worse if we did not set this record in my opinion.

The Tennessean just put out an article. Zoning changes will happen this summer. Demo votes ~ October.
