Embassy Suites (30 stories, 500 rooms), 1 Hotel (18 stories, 221 rooms)

I'm still stunned that that's an Embassy Suites.  I'm so used to them looking like this:

That's interesting, so do you think that the potential new cladding is that white/silver material covering the columns? It would be a really significant design change considering how heavily both hotels were to use the material.

That would be my guess. Metal finishes at columns typically have a protective film that gets peeled off as things finish up. That being said the same folks that do curtain wall install tend to do that kind of metal work as well. The rust color could be more of a specialty item which takes it  away from the typical curtain wall group. It could also be that maybe the material was deemed not great for the podium and it will be used to finish out the tower portion of the structure. Not entirely sure. Like I said it is a very early  observation and we would have to wait and see. I'm hopeful I am wrong, but would not be surprised by the change. Maybe I'll take a walk down there before I leave the office tonight.

Someone who's not familiar with Nashville would probably look at this picture and think it's a neat juxtaposition of the old and the new, not realizing that the oldest building in this picture is Bridgestone Arena which opened in 1996.  The beautiful and very classical Schermerhorn Symphony Center is only 14 years old.

Stopped on my way home from the office on Thursday. The vertical banding is certainly not the finished layer, so as far we know the Corten Steel look is definitely still in play.

Will the Embassy be taller than JWM? I realize the latter has more floors, but the first five floors of the Embassy are extremely tall.  And I think the top floors will have the roof angled upward.

With the spire it will be really close. JW Marriott is 386’. I can’t remember what the final height of this one will be.

I think they just went the cheap route on that side because they knew the Embassy Suites would soon be built and block it from view anyway.

It's a lot line with the Embassy Suite. They legally are not allowed to have windows along that side, unless the windows are fireproofed (which is very expensive). There is especially no point in putting windows there if you think another building is going to block the view.
