Embassy Suites (30 stories, 500 rooms), 1 Hotel (18 stories, 221 rooms)

I think 16 and 12.

If my eyesight doesn't betray me, when counting the pedestal (which appears to be 9 levels of parking on the eastern side, and 8 on the western), the taller/eastern tower is 21 stories (for a grand total of 30), and the lower/western tower (the one on the NE corner of 8th and Demonbreun) is 14 stories (for a grand total of 22).

I really like the density of the conglomerate with all the various levels. The dark rust and blue tint windows are a nice mixture.  The curvature of the base and the musical score trim along Demonbreun tie-in nicely with the shapes of the MCC across the street. Also am fond of the 10-story-tall vertical lettering on the signage along Demonbreun. The whole thing will be a good counterpoint to the JW Marriott catty-corner on the intersection. 

Overall, I am thrilled with this.  Certainly more interesting than most other Embassy Suites structures around the world.

Once again, I think the word was released (or picked up by media) of the number of floors in the tower section (not counting the parking podium).  You may recall the Omni was publicized as a 21 story hotel.  It is actually 25 including base. Pretty sure that's how the JW Marriott is being described right now too... as it's being touted as 34 floors, but there is a three story base and a rather high cap.

Yes it does seem from the rendering to be much more than 16 and 12?

That was a question I was trying to answer myself. Guess we will have to wait and see, but if they are in the 20 story range, I will be very, very happy.

With these towers alongs with JW Marriott, Bridgestone, Westin, and Cambria nearby, I think the First Baptist Church property fronting Demonbreun looks increasingly ripe for a tall proposal. I would love to see a tower taller than 505 there anchoring the SoBro skyline.

Upon closer look at the rendering, the Curio (the shorter of the two) appears to be at least as tall as the Cambria's roof level which would be its 20th level (19 floor building). The Embassy looks to be 4-6 floors taller than the Curio.

And the Metro Council will boycott it because they originally said 16 floors and they now believe they've been slighted somehow with more floors.  Less floors is more "Nashville."

I know it's naught but hearty jest and whatnot, but they're the ones who put the MCC there aren't they? Well, if it's successful, more hotel rooms are needed so this should be a good thing to them; to the point where they break out the wine-coolers and dress up in knickers and brawrs and whatever else government/bureaucrat types do when they're happy.

The entire area around MCC is in the expanded 30-story code for CBD (hence, JW Marriott and Westin).  And 30 is just the base level for this code---can go higher with variances. This project will have absolutely no problem passing.

Maybe I'm just prone to cynicism because of the whole Convention Center debacle.

The Downtown Code design committee has this one as it is not in a redevelopment district. So, MDHA will not have anything to do with this one, at least I am 95% sure of this.

According to the Tennessean piece, the Curio is now being listed as 250 rooms (previously 200).  The combination of The Embassy Suites 400 will then make this neck and neck with theRenaissance for ranking as the second largest hotel structure in downtown at 650 rooms, behind the Omni.

That's a top notch Embassy Suites

With this Embassy Suites/Curio Hotel development along with Cambria Suites, that means 905 hotel rooms so far in that block.  The final 1/4 lot in the NE corner is still available for sale from First Baptist Church (it has the same dimensions as the Cambria portion).  Depending on what may end up on that site, this could end up being one of the most densely packed blocks in all of downtown.
