Any updates on this?  Seems like it would get going pretty soon now that the hotel next door is quickly approaching being done.

Someone in another thread mentioned they're waiting on the completion of Cambria.

Though to be honest, that seems like a odd reason given that we have the SoBro Holiday Inn, Tri-Brand Marriott and Hilton Bi-Brand all next to each other with ongoing construction

Already construction on two of the four corners. My guess is they will wait for something to wrap up or get a little closer to wrapping up.

^ ^ ^ Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, too.  With the MCC expansion and JW Marriott construction jutting out onto Demonbreun and 8th, as well as Cambria encroaching on 8th and McGavock, there would be even more constriction to those roadways if this project were to start right now.  My guess is that once the MCC barriers at the SE corner of Demonbreun and 8th Ave. come down, they'll get rolling.

Could start loom on Embassy Suites/Curio project targeted for SoBro?

The development team behind a two-hotel project eyed for SoBro seemingly is prepping for full-scale on-site work.

White/Peterman Properties Inc. of Merrillville, Indiana, and Atlanta-based Five Star Realty Partners will have the towers for the two Hilton hotels — a 30-story Embassy Suites and an 18-floor Curio — constructed on a 1.3-acre site located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Demonbreun Street and Eighth Avenue South.

According to a source with information about the project, all vehicles and equipment related to the adjacent Cambria Hotel & Suites project are being removed from the site slated for the Embassy Suites and Curio. 

Wichita, Kansas-based LK Architects is handling design for the Embassy Suites/Curio project. The two towers collectively will offer 721 guestrooms.

Officials with White/Peterman Properties and Five Star Realty Partners could not be reached for comment.

The 255-room 19-story Cambria, located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Eighth Avenue and McGavock Street, is slated to open in 2018.

The parking lot where this one will be hasn't been used to store heavy equipment or bigger construction materials lately that I've seen, but the Cambria workers are still using it as a parking lot. Considering that the Cambria seems to be almost finished externally, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some drilling or fences being set up in the next month or so. I'm guessing that the Curio/Embassy workers will use the lot across 8th, or maybe the construction company will work something out with the Baptists across 7th.

I just drove past and they have some fresh fencing around the Embassy/Curio site, and most if not all of the Cambria equipment is gone. Can anyone confirm if groundbreaking is imminent?

Base of fencing in place. It is good that the sidewalks will be open (at least initially) along 8th and Demonbreun.
