  •  Did the Burger King Mascot lose his job"

He's moonlighting.

Taking on side gigs to earn extra money for Christmas.

That minimum wage salary BK pays him just doesn't cut it come this time of year.

The kids all want the newest smart phones and other electronic gizmos.

The wife wants a new Lexus and a Peloton

What's a king to do??? :(

I think the city did a great job of decorating the park this year. They've always decorated in the past, but never to this extent/quality at least not to my recollection. I'd like to see more interactive holiday decorations throughout the year - further encouraging Lake Eola as a destination for visitors. The ROI can really pay off for surrounding businesses too while attracting a better quality demographic (families and people who are just looking for good clean fun vs the steady onslaught of rowdy club goers).

So we visited with the baby and its a really nice display.  We were a bit disappointed to see the light/music shows are every hour now instead of more frequently.  I suspect that's because they're longer, but unfortunately the show was going to be past baby Codypet's bedtime.  A lot of the light displays you can walk through which is nice or a pain (depending on how much you like stopping for people taking photos).  The City was proactive in putting signs up asking people to be courteous to people when taking pictures.  There were a lot of people working on their Tinder profile pics there.

Downtown still needs to learn a lot. Go check out downtown Mt Dora, now that's what you get when the business and the city works together. The small light display they added to the lake is 1% of what they could be doing.

Oh I totally agree. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement, I'm basically saying do "more of this" and do it more often throughout the year. Bring local businesses and food trucks into the fold. It's a great way to encourage families to get out of the car and explore vs driving by in a car to gaze at random decorated houses. Not sure why it's such a novel idea for downtown to step it up during the holidays, but then again this is Orlan-doh.

A lot of it goes back to when Orange Ave. was still the city’s primary shopping street. During the most important retail period of the year, the last thing Ivey’s or Dickson and Ives wanted was to lose shoppers to the park.

Then, as downtown floundered and Eola became the transient and cruising area, it didn’t seem worthwhile to bother.

Then, the last problem was the tourism/sports folks wanting to siphon display funds to I-Drive and the Citrus Bowl.

Slowly, but surely the proletariat who lives here wanted things for the locals and here we are. Hopefully, it  will continue, keeping the new pieces and adding to them each year in the budget.

Simple ideas like moving the Christmas tree lighting from City Hall and incorporating a program at the bandshell have really helped. Also, having Santa at Eola House and expanding MoviEola from just the summer to Christmas as well.

If Thomas Chatmon were doing half as much for retail as Parks has been doing to program Eola, we’d be in a great place. We’ll take what we can get.

To give credit where it’s due, Buddy deserves credit for Eola (now, if he’d just bring back the flowers...)

Sooo interesting side note.  Myself and Mrs. Codypet had a night out and decided to ice skate and dinner in Winter Park.  Except Winter Park didn't do ice skating this year.  While disappointing for us when we arrived, the local business owners had more than a few things to say about the city not doing it this year.  I wonder if it will make Winter Park reverse course.

Knowing WP, it’ll probably become an issue in the next mayoral election. They need things to argue about up there like they need air.

BTW, there’s ice skating at Light Up UCF through Jan 3:

I feel like the City's gonna do that in our lifetime.

Eh. You got downtown disney, UCF, RDV, skate reflections KISS, Space Coast Rock/Melb, etc.      Parking is a prob. Food before and after hand is a prob. I get it, but leave it to UCF.  They can expand with more stuff. WP was meh, no walky with no drinky and sucky parky and no sunraily on weekendy.  Just go to Gaylord, grab cocktails and enjoy.
