Again, a brain exercise of mine. I look at the pic and not the topic and try to figure out what building it is. Sometimes it can be a challenge depending on the orientation of the photo.

My memory of the renderings from many years(!) ago led me to expect this project would have a fairly modern appearance, but it's turning out much more traditional than I had expected.

It's surprising to me that 1) this project has changed so dramatically from its original vision, and/or 2) that it's been in the works for so long that the very definition of  "modern" has evolved in that span of time.

Found it!  Not sure if this is THE original, but this is one from October 2014 when the plan was still 12 stories.  Found it in page 99 of the CBD/SoBro/RutledgeHill/Rolling Mill Hill Projects topic/thread.

This is the original rendering that I struggled so hard to find in the original thread! I remember being really excited for it at the time, but this design is actually pretty garish. I actually prefer what we're getting now.

I noticed that they are scraping the site where the construction trailer (pre-leasing?)  was. There is nothing on the development tracker, but is there something planned for the site fronting Hermitage??

A case where the renderings were so much more attractive then the final product. Another pseudo traditional beige and red brick apartment. It hugs the site nice is all I have to say.

Are there still plans for a restaurant here?  There have been several that have opened up in  in recent months in 222 (getting Hampton Social soon), SoBro Tower, Ginos East.............some of them are doing good, some might be doing better during Ascend concert dates or weekends.   I just don't see people going to many of these during the week.

Pure speculation but I’d guess that any restaurant would wait until the Eakin office building opens up. I think the 222 restaurants are hoping that all the new nearby hotels will provide diners - in the next few years. Hopefully they will offer affordable lunch options in the interim to build a customer base.

At some point restaurant rents may need to be rethought in these newer buildings. You need expensive menus to pay the bills, but if you can’t fill the seats....No one can afford to open a mom & pop sandwich shop in SoBro, which it needs more of.
