I've never heard of Portage Point and now I'm intrigued. :)

Joe

It is a classic old resort, and with new owners, hopefully will be one of the nicer ones along Lake Michigan.

Thanks Pattmost20!  Love Onekama (1,) and the Portage Lake area.  We bought a condo at the Portage Point Inn 2 years ago and was the best purchase of my life so far.

The resort was purchased out of foreclosure a few years back and it's new life is starting to take shape.  As you guys on here like renderings, you can see the current plans here: http://www.portagepointresort.com/ .  The plan is to turn the circa 1912 hotel into more lakefront condos as well.

Seems to be a great time to get into the Onekama/Manistee area.  Arcadia Bluffs is adding a second golf course a few miles away on M22 and expanding their lodging.  The Casino (not that I ever go there) also just expanded.  Brand new Meijer in Manistee.  New North Channel Brewing and a riverfront condo project opening this spring downtown Manistee.  All the beauty of northern Michigan without the Traverse City prices...

Hopefully not too off topic as this is a Lakeshore thread :)

Very nice! My parents have one of the newer places near the Spirit gas station, and I just bought some land on M-22 between Onekama and Arcadia. Love it up there. Hoping the new owners of the resort will go all out and make it a destination.

There are currently two 1-bedroom units for sale Joe ;)   Two 2 bed units just sold in the past 2 months.  Right on crystal clear, spring fed, deep water Portage Lake and a hundred yards from public Lake Michigan shoreline!  Can't beat the location.  I'm happy with Onekama remaining a sleepy vacation town, but am also happy to get the word out and boost my property value and rental income :)

Ha, small world Pattmost!  I follow Alicia on Instagram since I frequently saw posts from her in Onekama (and she takes great pictures!)  Had a hunch you may be connected as I saw her post about new land on M22 north of town.  Building a cabin soon?

Alicia is quite the photographer, but yes we are very excited about the land. Not sure the plans for the land yet, maybe a cabin, maybe a small hobby farm, definitely some camping in the near future.

There was a 40 acre piece of land for sale on 13 mile, just east of M-22 that I had looked at in the past. The price kept jumping up on the listing every few months, I bet he heard Arcadia was interested and started raising the price.

I believe I know which parcel you are talking about.  If you're curious, I believe the prices paid be Arcadia are now up on the Manistee County site.

Maybe now the residential development that stalled out a decade ago next to Arcadia Bluffs will see new life?

Well would you look at that. Holland with another building that actually has substance and isn't a giant, flat, metal rectangle with cheap windows. Take note Grand Rapids. And good for Holland to be expanding its downtown housing situation. It has a lot of untapped potential.

As for Zeeland Brewing...I had no idea there was one until now. I'm going to have to check it out.

I wasn't overly thrilled with their beer but the cool thing is that their license allows them to sell other breweries brews. Good selection in a town that I never thought could support a brewery.

and in a town that was dry for nearly 100 years :P

And if you hit up Zeeland GRLaker, grab dinner at Public.  Excellent food.  Owner/Chef is the former manager of the 1913 room in GR.  PublicZeeland.com
