Michigan Research Universities Responsible for $2.15 billion in R&D

On the subject of economic development - particularly in Michigan's urban centers - the state's biggest research universities (Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University) published their 10th economic impact report that illustrates the power our own nationally-ranked research cluster has on the state. From the press release:

"Michigan’s University Research Corridor was responsible for $2.15 billion in research and development (R&D) spending in fiscal year 2015, an increase of 53 percent since 2007, according to the 10th Annual Economic Impact & Benchmark Report released Tuesday. The report also notes the URC contributed $16.5 billion to Michigan’s economy, an increase of $3.7 billion since 2007, the year the URC was formed and began benchmarking its impact on the state of Michigan."
