The Johnston Supply building will be razed soon, and groundbreaking will be late summer. Besides being the developer, Sun Development and Management Corp will also be the contractor.  It will officially be 11 stories with 181 rooms.  New renderings below.

Glad I sent the renderings to you Mark. I like these rendering a little better and I am happy to see this is finally moving forward. There was a plan to take the little food court down on 4th but COVID nixed that, so they went back to the original plan.

 

So some permits last month and a grading permit this week when WW alerted me.

Permit has been applied for the razing of the Johnstone Supply building. Tiny's Construction will handle the demo. A late summer groundbreaking is still planned for the 1 story hotel.

Yeah, I really like the design of this project.  Conceptually, it really isn't THAT far off from the generic looking boxes a few blocks away (Margaritaville, Holiday Inn etc.), but there are quite a few sleek little touches to this that really put it in another category in terms of design.  Something about it really feels very Scandinavian.

A permit of unknown value has been issued for the building's shell. Demo of existing structures should begin any day.  Construction is supposed to get underway by "late summer" with Sun Development handling the work.

Sun Development has secured a $30.2 million loan from an unpublished source for the construction of the hotel.

For some reason, I really love this building. I think the height is great for this neighborhood now, and will be a nice contrast to Centrum and Congress Group developments next door. Not everything needs to be 40 stories, nor 11 stories. Let's have both.

This building is going to be very cool, and so appropriate for that location. I expect it will suddenly open up the area adjacent to the south/southeast to a lot of pedestrian activity.
