Remember my mentioning how fortunate we are to have so many new office towers to discuss and many times criticize add Tampa to the list of the city it does not happen very often.

First new high rise office tower to rise in downtown Tampa in 25 years (remember it was 30 years for San Antonio)

think how many just office towers we have built in the last 25 years in uptown Charlotte?  I don't even have time to count how many that would be.  a new 20 story office tower starts in downtown Tampa.

I recently had a significant layover in O'Hare after a trip to Southeast Asia and was reminded, once more, of how terrible American airports are at food. Our dining options in the concourse for our flight back home were Chili's Too, McDonald's, a sports bar, takeaway (Chicago-style) pizza, and a bunch of convenience store-type places. This is pretty typical of American airports, I think. Now, compare that to ChangiIncheon, or Hong Kong. Part of this is that those airports are either newer or have been significantly renovated so that their layouts are more sensible than the older American airports; but wouldn't it be fantastic if Charlotte-Douglas could make a name for itself by delivering a dining experience that could compete with those international airports?

Miscellaneous items from around the fruited plains   Things good for Charlotte!

From Augusta GA when I was there a week or so back.  Solar powered USB charging station along the riverwalk park.  (See photo)

From Houston a rooftop lunch and happy hour place on the 43rd floor.  Only reason I mention is that is operated by Compass Group which has its American HQ here in Charlotte.  Why not one here?      https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2019/06/24/photos-sky-high-downtown-houston-restaurant-now.html     My lunch spot next time in H Town probably next year you know it!

I used to work at Compass Group. Going to work in that quiet little business park off of Yorkmont was not "sexy" and I often wondered why that was the chosen location for the headquarters. All I can surmise is that it's a food service company - that serves institutions like schools and hospitals via humdreds of thousands of kitchen employees paid poverty wages, so no sexy needed. I don't know, though. Just a guess.

I would love to see them move uptown or even Ballantyne.

Assuming the former Bentley's space is available in Charlotte Plaza...

(No)Opus  place in Atlanta has yet ANOTHER rendering and design. I think they also changed it to mixed use from apartments as well. Just please do not  actually believe in a fiasco like this unless the company has actual funding and so forth. This project has been a disaster.

Sigh... The new project looks great, but this whole project has been a fiasco. I still don't think it'll get off the ground.

How can you say it won't get off the ground when they already broke ground?

Haha! They broke ground. They did some good work for 2 weeks, but for the past couple of months there has either been no crew or one caterpillar and a few gus. I really do hope this goes up, I am just skeptical.

This video made me feel a lil better, but I am still very doubful.

I don't know what disinformation campaign you are trying to create, but the developer a month ago said it's still a go and actively in construction. I don't know what more you want.

“The project is going forward,” said Lori Lane, senior vice president of holding company Berkshire Hathaway’s New Homes Division.

I have all the desire that this project will go up. I just don't want to see other developers use this strategy because it really gets old. We have been getting constant redesigns and so forth. A member on skyscapperpage emailed a sales rep about around 2-3 months ago and it was stated construction would begin in 2 weeks. Two weeks went by and there was nothing. With this new proposal I definitely feel better about this, but I won't feel 100% until they start pouring that foundation.

Charlotte has had (what I assume is ) a test one of these by the Powerhouse on the Rail Trail for a while.IMG_4627.thumb.jpg.9dee35152cdea0ec8c2db7a5f0c77dc8.jpg

The "Murder" Kroger in Atlanta has been resurrected so to speak with an office tower on the Beltline a trail loop system from all railroad lines around the ATL complete with a new hopefully non murderous Kroger store.   Not sure I like that new tower but I will check out in person next time in the ATL.

That's some nice police work there, Wikipedia:

While efforts by Kroger have been made to reduce the murder rate at this location, future data will be required to fully analyze any long term benefits from the ongoing murder reduction strategy.

Interesting this is super thin office building that sounds like it is underway in Miami.  55 stories 729 feet tall but only 490,000 sq ft smaller than Ally Center.   Says WeWork is taking 146,000 sq ft over 10 floors so the floorplates are small compared to Charlotte' standards.    However it is first office tower proposed in downtown Miami or Brickell in many years (all residential and hotel towers in the last decade)   Russian money is behind and so is Michael Dell.

read the comments too they are blistering some of them LOL
