Wow UP has been all negative today this and Legacy.  Who is going to climb up sides of hotel and see this up close?  It looks like this cladding starts a few floors up.  I like this hotel we don't need another glass one we have the tall skinny Intercontinental coming soon.

Not to mention it matches the rendering (minus the windows) and is a nice material :dontknow:

One of these days you might have to move back to CLT and run for local office to help rectify our struggles.

Maybe I have low standards, but I think that it looks great.

Walk past it.

I don't usually get all up in arms about materials, but it looks really weird in person.

The only other time I've noticed something look so cheaply made has been the new Embassy Suites and that place is already peeling away in spots.

It looks like very similar material and colors to the Grand Bohemian Charleston. Is the scale the issue vs the Charleston hotel?

the issue is this looks like its from epcot

Not arguing with the idea that this looks bad, but what are some examples of alternative materials/facades that you guys would prefer for this type of building?

Brick, Stone, any sort of masonry really.  It is supposed to be a nice urban hotel, and they are building it out of La Quinta next to the airport materials.

When I look at this hotel going up I am reminded of a mostly empty pocket park.  I see it being replaced by  street level activity, another restaurant, probably 50 or more jobs, average of about 120 guests going and coming, and extending the Trade Street presence further down the street.  The developer wasn't creating art, but building something to make a profit.

It looks like they are using materials similar to the Charleston Grand Bohemian (pictured below). The Grand Bohemian in Orlando looks like it is largely just stucco as well. So I would think our hotel will turn out somewhat like these hotels, neither of which are masonry.

The Charleston Grand Bohemian Hotel is predominantly stucco.  The columns and cornice at the ground level are cast stone.  The cornice at the top of the 3rd floor is GFRC.

Grand Bohemian Orlando (material on top half of building looks similar to what we are getting in Charlotte):

Yea but I'm pretty sure whats staged, is a street front facade, based on the renderings.
