The awnings and gold accents are making this look better than I expected, even if it was basically the largest polluter uptown at the time of construction.

I do. It may be recency bias, but I actually think Bohemian was worse and longer term.

I saw the pics for the GB, that was horrible. It is a great looking project, but at what cost.

I remember the 'snowfall' from Stonewall Station apartment tower and it was bad too.

I really think this is so sophisticated for such a modern city. It’s refreshing to get this among so many glass buildings. This hotel is going to really liven this little section up.

They really are, and the black trim on them is a nice touch.

I also stan those awnings something fierce. Though this building is a net-positive for the city, I wouldn't feel nearly as glad it's here were it not for those. 

Not really a similar design, but it brings to mind the old design of the Belk's store entrance at Eastridge Mall in Gastonia, before its years-ago renovation and facade change. The awnings were dull green, rounded, ominous in the coolest way to kid-me at the time... Certainly caught the eye and brought people in.

couple from today and did not see the awnings as they are starting installation on the other side.  that rooftop is going to be awesome.
