Austin is nice and a great place to visit as you said but the quality of life issues are the most important in my book. But if you are moving from California which many are into Austin it is golden. But they maybe because they have never come this far east. As hot as it is right now in the Carolinas, this kind of heat and yes even humidity lingers in Austin a lot longer. I agree. The QoL is way better in NC than it is in any Texas city and also Atl., which has a lousy QoL due to the traffic.

Popular Post po-boy
A lot of the current success of the Triangle is due to the farsighted actions of leaders in the 1950's to 1980's. Things like establishing Research Triangle Park and the Biotechnology Center. This area had some real visionaries to distinguish this area from other smallish southern state Capitals. Of course the presence of the universities is a major factor, but they put in place infrastructure that helped build on the universities.

Popular Post Raleigh Walker
Just wanted to throw this one out into the webspace universe. BioAgilytix, a Durham biotech company that announced a massive 878 job, $61 million expansion back in October 2020, has announced 2 acquisitions in the past 3 days! BioAgilytix has bought out MicroConstants in San Diego, California and 360biolabs in Melbourne, VIC. KJHburg
More from that Extreme Networks article this is the 2nd California company that quietly relocated here plus one NYC based firm. Plus that company that announced a few weeks (Smart Wires) that it was moving from Silcon Valley to RTP (that one had more fanfare) ""Extreme Networks is not the first company to quietly make this kind of move in the wake of the shift to remote working. Last year, communications software firm Avaya Technologies (NYSE: AVYA) relocated its headquarters from California to Durham without a lot of fanfare. And Phreesia (NYSE: PHR), a technology firm in the health care space, made a similar move, relocating its principal executive offices to Raleigh from New York. In both those cases, executives cited remote working trends as precipitating the move. “It just became more apparent that there was a real need to collapse and consolidate,” Avaya CEO Jim Chirico said last year. In the case of Phreesia, securities filings showed that with the prospect of “indefinite remote work,” the firm decided to let its costly office lease in New York City expire."" I would expect this trend to continue especially the mid cap firms from California and NY Edited August 19, 2021 by KJHburg

Popular Post KJHburg
Yet another California Bay area company has moved its HQ to Durham! ""More than two years after appearing on “Shark Tank,” a vegan dog food startup has secured even more capital from billionaire Mark Cuban – and that’s good news for Durham. That’s because Wild Earth, which just added $23 million to its coffers, has moved its headquarters from California's Bay Area to Durham’s American Underground, lured to the region by its lower-cost of doing business. Founder and CEO Ryan Bethencourt said the pandemic is a major driver behind the company's move from California. But the cost profile was the real differentiator. He estimates the firm has been able to cut its costs in half just by moving out of California. Already, about half of its team is in Durham – about 15 people."" Escape from California: Why 'Shark Tank' startup Wild Earth moved HQ to Durham - Triangle Business Journal (bizjournals.com) ""And it could soon increase its investment in the state. Right now, manufacturing happens in the Midwest. But the company is in talks with the North Carolina State Food Innovation Lab in Kannapolis “about doing more here,” Bethencourt said.
