How'd you get the elevated vantage point? I'm guessing you were at or near Herndon airport when you took that one and the other one from the photo thread.

you know they've got that new 5 story or taller building right there on airport property...

Just drove by and new tower crane truss sections were on site. Should see cranes going up tonight or tomorrow.

Hopefully you can make this out.  It's going!

Sorry for the filter, but it was the best way to get the crane to show up.

What a great perspective of the skyline!

I was trying and trying to figure out where this was taken from, but I think I've narrowed it down to the Wells Fargo building @ Magnolia & Park Lake.

I think there's Dementors crossing the street there.

Yet another modern cultural reference I had to look up because I didn't understand it. :huh:

I'm old. <sigh> :cry:

This project is going up pretty fast. They are doing Cast-in-place for the garage with pre-fabricated rebar sections and prefabricated modular forms:

Hopefully it doesn’t slow down like 520 has.

^^

crappy resolution; crappy lighting- done primarily to show it's visibility from Orange & Pine because of the perspective.   I had to zoom in using the cell and the resolution suffered as a result.

I diagree. Whatever kind of phone you are using and the zoom is not bad actually. Nice photo.  Shows good on both computer and mobile IMO.

Not a bad picture at all, really.

If you hadn't said anything I doubt anyone would've even thought about the resolution.

I like the fact that you can see the Florida Hospital skyline in the distance, looking like a continuation of the downtown skyline.

compared to those glorious works of art preceding my post (by IAmFloridaborn) it's a little embarrassing... but thanks...

Note 5...still holding strong.  typically takes excellent shots, but the mid day sun blaring and sun bleaching effect can't really be helped...

the beauty of my shot is that the 2nd crane should pop up just to the left of the 1st one based on perspective, but we'll see.  the other beauty of that shot is that Radius will seal the gap (partially) between Skyhouse and Aspire.  The redo of Travelodge should fill in the rest I think...

      The city council retreat is underway. Ryan Murphy of The Pilot is live tweeting from it. There is a lot of development discussion and focus in here to unpack. I am pretty new here but one development I may have missed or have never seen mentioned is a senior living development next to the fire station.
      Here is the first post of the thread;
      And here's the post referencing the senior living development;

      Dollar Tree is adding 600 jobs and expanding their headquarters. They said they will be building the "tallest building" in Chesapeake. Pictures in the article look to be a town center style environment within the Grennbrier area.

      I wanted to post a thread on this to see if anyone else was interested, curious, or knowledgeable about prefab homes.  My girlfriend and I are considering either a major addition to our home or demoing the structure and building a custom home.  I understood prefab to be better built due to the ability to build in a controlled environment, but also cheaper due to the economies of scale achieved by building similar homes in one location.  This would be especially true for the modular homes.  However, I am finding many of the prefab homes are priced in the $350-$500/sqft. range, excluding land costs!  One company (Turkel Design) gave me a quote for $143 for site work costs, which would include running the plumbing, electrical, installing the cabinetry, etc.   The materials (drywall, cabinets, counters, appliances, etc.) come as part of another $150,000 line item for the budget.  The big issue I am having is comparing apples-to-apples.  How do I confirm what a comparable house would cost to build on site?
      Does anyone have an personal experience with these types of homes or projects?

      The old Ramada Inn turned failed Duke Condo project turned failed boutique hotel by Graduate Hotels, is in the process of being demolished.  It appears everyone has given up at this point on trying to save the bones of this building and it's going to be razed for a 342 unit apartment complex and parking deck.  The design is being handled by CLINE Design on behalf of Alliance Residential out of Charlotte.

      General site plan which definitely maximizes every inch of their site as opposed to the giant sprawling parking lot currently there:
