Colonial Pedestrian Overpass and OUT Extension [Under Construction]

I took a Lime bike home from downtown over this bridge after the USA Soccer game last week and it was pretty awesome.  Half the price of an Uber, a lot more fun, and definitively more practical with this bridge/trail segment.  Really hope they can extend it south a couple blocks to complete the off-street connection

Did anyone else go?  Got a free helmet from Lime bikes as well as t-shirt and branded bike bell from the City.

Doubletree was on site with their signature cookies - warmer than normal because Florida

Those old school looking Lime helmets?  I'm jealous!

I was at the Curry Ford Road meeting and Patty stated that she was able to walk from her home (which is roughly were Octopus car wash is) to the bridge without having to step off the trail, and that she was excited that one day she could walk to work without stepping foot off the trail.  I wonder how she pulled that off considering there's a big gap between Magnolia and Orange.  Every person I've talked to from the City doesn't seem to acknowledge that gap exists, and focus only on the gap between Livingston and Jefferson.

Yes.  She's absolutely mistaken unless she's making her own trail on the sidewalks of downtown.

According to the ARB documents, the bridge segment runs from Orange & Concord on the South to Orange on the North side of Steelhouse

Is that how it was built? If so, then she's missing roughly 2,000 feet of path.  Besides the Livingston to Jefferson piece, if it stopped at Concord that still leaves a block from Concord to Amelia.

There is no gap between Concord and Amelia. It's built all the way down to the Lynx Central Station at Amelia. There is a gap to the OUT at Magnolia known as the Dinky Line Gap (needs a crossing over Magnolia) in between where the Dinky Line portion of OUT begins (south of Powerhouse east of Magnolia) and the northern terminus of the new Pedestrian Bridge section on the north side of Steelhouse. Typically, people use Weber St. to connect back to Orange. There is a bike lane that runs down Orange, and large sidewalks along Orange for walkers.  There is already planning and funding ($814k) underway to finish the Dinky Line Gap segment (https://bungalower.com/2018/01/20/fdot-help-city-extend-orlando-urban-trail-network/) but it isn't complete yet. There is also a plan for an overall "Bicycle Beltway" that connects all of the trails in a circulator that other routes and street bike lanes will branch off of.

If you click through the links, you can see plans for most of the connectors left. Gertrude's walk and the OUT Dinky Line Gap are set to be complete by "Winter 2020" so construction should be starting on those soon. Here is the current design for the OUT Dinky Line Connector:

Looks good. My only problem is that on Orange the path should be separated into protected bike lanes and a sidewalk.  Just that path may become too busy for bicycles to easily use to get into and out of downtown.
