There will be a protest tomorrow in Marshall Park in response to the selection of Whitaker and demanding recusal. Found this because it was trending in the popular section of reddit so might be big depending on Trump’s next moves.

You New McCarthyites just make sure to clean up after yourselves.

McCarthyism was a strategy spearheaded by Roy Cohn, who was Donald Trump's mentor.  Not only that, but Trump has repeatedly asked 'Where is my Roy Cohn' implying that the missing piece in his administration is someone with Cohn's particular set of skills.

Cohn is the one who taught Trump to literally never admit fault or apologize, and to frame his personal and political grievances as though they were some kind of anti-American conspiracy, which is why any news that reports unfavorably about Trump is quickly labeled 'the enemy of the American people' etc.  These are tactics that came directly from McCarthyism and it's mastermind.

Maybe I'm missing your point here...

Yeah, you missed it. I’m savoring the idea of Democrats checking their closets for Evil Russians.

Weird.  I'm savoring the idea of a cheeseburger.  Different strokes for different folks, I guess - though I do still think that of all the names you could choose to call the Democrats, you would be better served by one that's less confusing at least, given the fact that Trump was the mentee of the mentee of Joe McCarthy himself.

On another note, my apologies to the Charlotteans - I had a bunch of tabs open and thought I was responding to Dale on one of the Nashville threads.  It's a pattern.

Against my better judgement I'll bite on this lure as well.

Macarthyism = often evidenceless accusations by government officials that American's were committing crimes when most of them were simply exercising their constitutional rights of free speech and free association.

The people you seem to be pushing back against are requesting that the new acting AG to recuse himself from an investigation that, based on multiple statements, is unable to rule on impartially.  In what way is this similar to McCarthyism? Are you  suggesting that it is a bad thing for Americans to believe that our government should use due process to enforce our nation's laws and policies?

Hey Kermit, are you going to the rally to protest Session’s firing to follow up on the earlier rally to protest his hiring ?

Bill Brawley is the only state legislator from the Republican Party left in Mecklenburg county, and he only won by 52 votes. Bokhari and Driggs are the only Charlotte council members* from the GOP. Not much of a welcome delegation for the Rep Convention - I guess we'll see how the municipal election goes next year.

*The towns elect non-partisan council and mayors

Apparently the Brawley race hasn't been called yet while they wait for absentee ballots to finish being counted.

While I lament the loss of some political balance on the County Commission I hope Bill "was your son a homo?” James doesn't let the screen door hit him on the way out. He has been making Charlotte look backwards for more than a quarter century. He was even involved in the Angels in America / ASC defunding crusades back in 1996.

as I was saying....

It's not as if we individually voted for nine positions, so chastising people for a 9-0 council is a bit weird. Field better candidates! I would've voted for Ridenhour over his opponent, but that's not my district... and in my district I was thrilled to vote against Bill James.

Perfectly stated.

I mean, Americans are still on the actual witch hunt for those horrible, evil socialists/communists. To the far right, the left in general is the exact same as communists and socialists which is why politicians often paint a picture of their enemies as such in order to rile the base into a frenzy. But they've also creatively added illegals into the mix.

I hold mostly moderate views that come from both sides of the isle but regardless of my opinion on this matter I can't stand for people to use ad hominem attacks without any justification other than to demean them especially on a particularly partisan issue.

Very well written article on Bill James’ assholery in Charlotte Mag

How appropriate!  Regardless of party affiliation, I am glad to see this vile individual slither back to the hole he came out of.  I don't even live in Charlotte, but was well aware of his deeds.  Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, at least as far as I can tell. I personally support this- I think it would be more practical and actually allow more stuff to get done- but I would like to hear some criticisms!

Since you asked, I'm against unless approved by voters (not in a special election).

Interesting light shed on our former Commission: Screenshots of how soon-to-be former County Commissioner highly conservative Vice Chair Jim Puckett (R)articulates how he  “handled” our County chair Ella Scarborough (D) throughout their tenure to get a 6-3 Democrat majority to operate like a 5-4 or 4.5-4.5 ratio.

To quote the always-thoughtful Justin Perry:

"To be clear, he got the vice chair spot based on in-fighting between (identified) Democrats.

For the record, I applaud the republicans for manipulating our democrats so effectively. I’m not mad at you and tip my hat.

It’s the democrats who need to get it together. "

You must despise the Democrats then.

Yeah, especially the “Trump is a f***ing Nazi!” part and “His followers are sheep!” we get breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Watch the Trump interview on Fox News yesterday.  If you don't conclude that he's a moron and completely unfit for office, I'll be surprised (unless you think raking national forests is plausible).  Trump is not Hitler and his followers are not Nazis.  However, the blind obeisance to a terrible man is disturbing.
