I gotta ask. I just went through all of @Dandy Chiggens posts. Only one related to the topic of this board, development. Why exactly are you on this board, if the only thing you contribute to is this thread, and the thread that much of these discussions used to be held in. Can't this all happen on 4chan or reddit, or in the comment section of Breitbart? Maybe contribute something development worthy?

LOL @ you stalking me on the forum because I have different political opinions than you.  I keep politics to the political thread and it still triggers you.  I actually have a veteran friend who is a higher up at Duke.  I had info to share that I still havent seen on the forum but decided against it after seeing the toxicity that some members have here.  I noticed you are one of the cattier people on this board and get very upset and snarky with people.  Maybe you should take a break and get some fresh air.  You dont even live in Charlotte so perhaps start contributing to the Williamsburg forum instead?

I cant even imagine how horrible life has been for Trumpists.  Heterosexual, Christian literalist, Anglo-Saxon...my God, the Horrors they've endured since 1955.  They are fighting back now, taking bitterness to a whole new level, wallowing in self-pity, pretending to be civil, hiding behind flag and Bible verse.  There is a lot of pent up anger in the world today.  Maybe injustices and insult have come home to roost.  Maybe we are all just a little spoiled.  I'm going with mostly spoiled with injustice and insult sprinkled on top.    Cherry-picking Bible verses and Constitutional Amendments to promote hatred and division.  Cherry-bombing political process for economic gain.  The top of the NC GOP is under investigation for bribery.  The Ninth District is without Representation because of Republican  shenanigans.  "What if it were the NC Democratic Party...."   Trumps whines about endless Mueller.  Birth certificate, anyone?  Poltical correctness is a Liberal monopoly...?  "Happy holidays", Fox News.   No thank you for your service.

I asked you a question. Why are you here. Negativity is the ONLY thing you contribute to this forum. This thread shouldn't even exist as far as I'm concerned because this is not the point of this site. I'm asking you to please contribute toward the actual purpose of this site. This isn't a political website.

And if you think I get snarky, catty or upset with people... just know, its only when people are ignorant. You happen to be extremely ignorant. You are a narcissistic wise-ass, who has yet to contribute a single positive thing to this forum. Please go troll city data.

LMAO you say this to the person in the political minority on this site.  Perhaps stop replying to me and I'll post less.  Your Trump Derangement Syndrome is nearing stage 4.   Another person commented earlier in this thread that opposing viewpoints arent allowed here and that is pretty spot on.  Perhaps you should lobby to have this thread axed if you cant handle political discourse and need an echo chamber.

I bet if I posted "drumph is getting indicted any day now!! I just know it!!" you wouldn't have a problem with me.

No I think that would be stupid, because you can't indict a sitting president. So yes I'd have a problem with that. But its very very clear that the president is not a good guy, and he's either had a stroke in the past year or so, or has started sliding quickly into dementia.

Well said @cltbwimob. I’m a registered Democrat, the only one in my immediate family. These past few years and the political climate have introduced some strain and tension at family gatherings because of differing beliefs (when politics are brought up). Ultimately, it’s very hard to convince or change anyone’s beliefs..

The strangest thing is I know my beliefs are right. But the exact same can be said for Republicans - they know in their hearts that they’re right.

And so with family and strangers alike, I think it’s valuable to pause and ask if it’s more important to be right, or to have a relationship.

Or, decide when it's right to fight.  Imagine yourself in Berlin in 1933 knowing what we know now about the next 12 years.  Do you "look the other way" because your relationships are more important than saving lives, or, do you look the other way, fight behind the scenes, and let your loved ones meet their own fate?  In 1933, a lot of people were convinced they were righteous and the other side pure evil but most were on the fence, including members of my own family alive then and in Berlin.  Some were on the Left and voted for the Christian Democrats and Socialists but most were on the Right and voted for the nationalists and monarchists parties including the Nazis. There was outright violent political civil-war taking place in the streets.  The time for talking had largely passed. But there was a time before 1933, when freedom of ideas, tolerance for others, and honest conversations happened between people with opposing beliefs.  What happened? A Populist political movement took advantage of crisis and used the populations deepest fears prejudice and paranoia to crush dissent, slaughter, and imprison the opposition...first they came for the trade unionists and communists, the gays and artists then moved on.  As time progressed the opposition was either happily on board, hopeful that this was just a passing phase or paralyzed by fear.  The warning isn't so much that people have different beliefs, that's actually a good thing, it's when a demagogue emerges who promises to have all the answers, uses others as scapegoats, capitalizes on innate fears and prejudices, and monopolizes national and/or religious symbols and ideals as their exclusive domain at the exclusion of others.  It can come from extremists on either the Right or Left.  Right now, and for the last 30 or so years, it's been from the Right.  Trump in a lot of ways is the most extreme political leader we have ever had in this country. He has the power of media behind him and arguably the military and police. He's largely been successful at converting old Republicans into his own version of a political party that loosely resembles the old. There is no room for compromise or discussion. He wraps himself in nationalism and literalist religion creating a fanatical base of supporters believe that they alone are the rightful protectors of nation and faith. I know what happened to my own family there in Berlin and I see what happened there happening again. History never repeats itself exactly as it happened before, but it will repeat the theme. Sure it's painful to think about this and witness the decline of tolerance and civility but you can't ignore it either.  I don't think that this venue is the correct place to have these deep philosophical and political discussions but don't stop talking about what you believe in person with those you disagree with.

LOL the nut jobs always reveal themselves sooner or later.   I feel like I am reading something ISIS would put out on the internet in an attempt to radicalize losers who suck at life.

Talk like this leads to attempted assassinations like the left wing nutter at the Congressional baseball game in Alexandria.

Any chance we can cancel this thing? I’ll bet 10% of ECU’s entering class disappeared overnight. Four nights of this crap on national /global tv ain’t gonna be good for Charlotte.

(back when the bid was made I was a ‘let’s take their money’ guy -- I now think I was totally wrong about that. )

Disagree with this, no one remembers the RNC last time was in Cleveland, and there was plenty of nonsense there. There is a difference between a city no one has ever heard of and Charlotte in terms of knowing the gen pop's political leanings.

On top of that, the RNC is so controlled, so policed, and events are incredibly reserved i dont think they will wind up like the naz....trump rallies we have seen in the past. The amount of security from the secret service, fbi, national guard, CPD, NCPD, etc etc....i think it will be worth taking their money and then voting against all these idiots

We need to play up the fact that our democratic (and minority-woman) mayor welcomes them.  It would be AWESOME if Charlotte became the epicenter of compromise and bridge between two parties.  Wasn't it McCrory who wouldn't even go to an Obama event?  We're the only city in the country that even welcomes The RNC

The RNC is going to be a disaster. Factions from the far right and far left are going to descend on uptown. I don't know about y'all, but I've already planned my vacation for that week--I plan to be very far away (Germany, to be exact). If Charlotte's going to burn, I don't want to see it from my own back door.

Like I said, they can descend all they want but the police and law enforcement presence is going to be off the freaking charts. It won’t be a disaster. The party is a disaster but the event will be fine.

Yeah, Charlotte used to held up as an example to the rest of the country in the late 70s and early 80s as a city that rose above the busing strife, then came the outsiders who decided they wanted to go back to neighborhood schools. I guess some folks just like to wallow in misery.

I was gonna say. No one pays attention to where the MAGA rallies are. The eastern NC rally. People from other regions view it as “oh, MAGA rallies are vile” (or amazing). Not “oh, NC is XYZ”

its the president of the US. People can’t judge N.C. because the president comes. Besides, this rally and incident could’ve happened in any state. Even in DC.

I was just reading two articles through Reuters News concerning the rally and the site location was not even mentioned in either of the two!

I guess I always go back to the glaring truth that absolutely no other city really wanted this convention because they knew it would be a royal pain in the arse. We were "awarded" it because no one else submitted a real bid.

I'd love nothing more for the event to go off without incident, but regardless of "police presence", this is going to be an unpleasant week. Face it, half of America already thinks the Unite the Right rally (and subsequent violence and murder) actually took place here. Damn that "CH" factor!

Perhaps this works both ways?  Everyone will think the coronation took place in CHarleston...

^and which Charleston?  I call it the CHA-CHA-CHA factor for Charlotte-Charlottesville-Charleston. Never confused with Chicago.  Though sometimes with Columbia.  But that's like the Carolinas factor. And all the CHAs are in abutting states. Even that other Charleston, due to the Virginias factor.  All of the confusion is just a ROYAL pain.
