The original idea when the new Capitol was completed (the tower you see in the background) was to demolish the old Capitol (it looked quite different and was pretty much a mess). Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and the decision was made to restore the old building to its 1902 appearance and take down some of the tacky add-ons. The awnings represent what you would have seen in 1902 (since you mostly see B&W photos from that era, that's why they seem odd). The result worked out well, giving a much softer, more historic counterpoint to the severe looking tower that is the new Capitol.

Also keep in mind that for much of Florida's history it was a poor state. As a result, the old Capitol was never as grand as the ones you'll see in some other state capitals.

If he isn't removed from office by the Senate and wins reelection, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up impeached a second time on other charges of illegal stuff he hasn't even done yet, well before 2023. Lmao
