Cal Cunningham admits to sexting with a strategist in California. Polls will be interesting to see if unaffiliated voters switch from Cal to Thom or if this does not impact their vote. Cal looked on track to win, but with Thom having COVID-19 and Cal sexting, anything is possible now in NC.

Yes, It'll be interesting and hard to predict. However,  fwiw, I think so many people are baked into party line voting this year that it may not matter in the least.

I mean, if Trump can get elected by NC voters in 2016 with all his ugly actions, how could you even talk about Cunningham's actions? I do find Cunninghams actions terrible and STUPID but it's better than 6 more years of climate denial and many other loathsome positions Tillis has taken. BTW, Isn't it crazy that Trump is so scandalous that his tax return and balance sheet issues aren't even getting top billing!

^ the texts were so tame it made me feel kinda bad for the guy.

Why is this even a subject of discussion after we were forced to learn about the current president who paid to raw-dog a porn star while his wife was at home caring for their new baby? If you still feel like sexting is an issue worth discussing then lets talk about donald's taped admissions of sexual assault along with multiple (separate) allegations of rape before we discuss Cal's scandalous mentions of consensual kissing.

Cal did have incredible luck with the timing of this news. As they say, better lucky than good.

I think Cunningham did something really dumb and that speaks to his character. However, he's in first grade and Trump is a grad student when it comes to being a ”pig”. ;-0

Anyhow,. Yes, it's much too late and what matters most are the issues.  The DNC kinda has a stranglehold on plans to address the countries issues. The GOP didn't even bother to share a vision.

Cunningham is an absolute dimwit. Any other generic democrat could beat Tillis by doing the bare minimum, but he couldn't even manage that. The DCCC saddled us with this centrist dullard because they judged him the most electable man in the state. And here we are.

That's the DNC; same with Amy Mcgrath in Kentucky against McConnel when they put everything they had into defeating Charles Booker in the primary (not that either had a chance against Mitch)

It is unfortunate that the Covid-19 pandemic has and continues to take a toll on small businesses, primarily in the restaurant and bar industry.  However, this sector has always had very high turnover rates prior to Covid-19.  I think once a vaccine is developed this pandemic like every other recent "social upheaval" will be quickly forgotten and you will see a burst of new opportunities occuring!

https://www.cnbc.com/2016/01/20/heres-the-real-reason-why-most-restaurants-fail.html

I totally agree and the solution isn't having people pile up to create a chain reaction of illnesses, eventually word will get out and ultimately shut down those businesses due to lack of patronage....people aren't crazy, well, most aren't.   A few things you haven't heard in 4 years... the "REAL" unemployment rate....and drum rollllllll please...the budget deficit.  They magically became a non-factor or self-corrected when Obama disappeared, what  a sack of phony spineless hypocrites.

From what I've seen I really admire Rev Barber. Could he be a viable candidate to replace crooked Burr? I'm fairly new in this area and don't know if he's got skeletons in the closet. Could a progressive black man even win a Senate race here?

Sure hoping SC leads the way on that! Graham is the poster child for the cynical politician relying on their constituents being racist and/or stupid.

The Harvey Gantt loss to Jesse Helms in 1990 was a pretty devastating blow to NC's very progressive tilt in the 1980s. I was too young to adsorb all the details but there were some serious shenanigans with broken voting machines in Durham county along with some incredibly racist ads from Helms-- the message was clear enough for this apathetic 20 year old to absorb —  the system was rigged against black candidates for statewide office.

Not that I care about this really at all (beyond the politics of it), but I was surprised he got traction over someone like Erica Smith.

Also, is there any chance the state balance of power could go republican next cycle? I'm sorry to admit I just don't follow local politics like I should.

This is a pivotal election as the part that controls the legislature will be able to gerrymander the bejezzus out of the state's districts (this is exactly how the yall'qaeda got their stranglehold in 2010). I am not super optimistic that the Dems will win enough seats for this, but the national and statewide polls are certainly pointing in the right direction for a pleasant surprise.

Different subject: Goldman Sachs said today that a Dem sweep would cause them to be significantly more optimistic on the 2021 economy.

Trump just sacrificed 35K+ airline jobs and possibly triggered bankruptcies, $600/mo unemployment, $500M state aid, and $1,200 checks to Americans. Stopped stimulus negotiations. Can't believe it...

Is it Trump or Nancy who is sacrificing them? Seems like trump will sign a bill for Bailing out the airlines, and giving more $1,200 checks. Whole thing is ridiculous, and shows how far over the edge on both sides the politicians have gone. People need help.

The house passed 2 different stimulus packages including one back in May.. These were never even brought to a vote in the Senate. Don't buy into the latest GOP/Fox talking points that Nancy Pelosi is somehow the person holding negotiations back.

Its a negotiation and neither side is moving from their positions. I am not buying into anything. Both sides are culpable.
