Boutique Graduate Hotel planned for 2000-2006 West End Ave. on the NW corner of West End Ave. and 20th Ave. North (former location of Checkers Drive-In). The co-developer of Thompson Hotel in the Gulch, AJ Capital Partners of Chicago, paid $12.75 million in two purchases that make ip the for the 1.1 acre lot ($289 per square foot).  No renderings, specs, or start date yet. Based on sizes of other Graduate Hotels in similar scale markets, I estimate this will be around 10 stories and 200 rooms.

Here are what some of the other Graduate Hotels look like. It appears that in some cases they refurbish existing properties.  In the Nashville case, they will build from scratch:

I would be excited if our design is akin to Berkeley, or Richmond, or Seattle.

From today's Nashville Post:

The Chicago-based entity hoping to develop a Graduate-brand hotel on West End Avenue will go before the Metro Planning Commission on Thursday, Oct. 12, to seek final plat approval.

AJ Capital Partners recently paid $12.75 million for the 1.01-acre three-parcel site, which sits at the northwest corner of the intersection of 20th Avenue North and West End. The LLC has enlisted Nashville-based Ragan-Smith Associates to handle land-planning and engineering duties.

The parcels have addresses of 2000, 2004 and 2006 West End Ave. and are best recognized as home to a Taco Bell. They must be combined to allow for the development. The parcels are located across West End from The Cathedral and a half block from the northeast corner of the Vanderbilt University campus. AJ Capital Founder and CEO Ben Weprin is a VU graduate.

AJ Capital, which co-developed Thompson Nashville Hotel in The Gulch, created Graduate Nashville Owner LLC and Graduate Nashville TRS LLC for the purchase and development.

From today's Nashville Post:

Chicago-based AJ Capital Partners plans to build a 203-room hotel at a prime West End Avenue corner near Vanderbilt University’s campus. The Business Journal reported Monday that the company, which helped develop the Thompson Hotel in The Gulch, is looking to start construction next year on the latest outpost of its Graduate Hotel brand. The project is expected to include a ground-floor restaurant as well as about 5,500 square feet of meeting space.

AJ officials earlier this year paid almost $13 million for the roughly one-acre site at West End and 20th avenues. Metro officials still need to approve the company’s plans.

Still no renderings.

^^^ Sounds like about 14 floors? Eight floors of rooms at 25 per plus lobby level, meet rooms floor and 4 floors of parking. Or maybe 12.
