Duke Energy Plaza Headquarters | 40 Story formerly Charlotte Metro Tower

The convention center should move.   It’s too small and yet, occupies too much prime space that could serve better uses such as a park surrounded by higrise residential towers with retail.

A possibly good location would be the far end of North Tryon where the County Services building with the huge parking lot is located.

Agreed on the covention center.  Or how about a whole block with a new Panthers stadium connected to a new convention center and hotel/retail/entertainment district.  Is there that knid of space near a light rail stop?

I proposed all this a few weeks ago, and was laughed at lol

What are the odds that they’re going to plunk down $151 million, to renovate the CC, only to tear it down.

I’ll hang up and listen.

better question:

what are the odds they replace a revenue earning civic building with a non revenue earning park?

I think that it would be an investment, like the HighLine,  the Hudson Yards Park, and all of the new private park space in the Yards, because people will pay more for the apartments, and more tax revenue will come in.

But in both these instances they either "invented land" (by capping a train yard), or utilized a 40 years defunct rail line. They didn't demolish Javits Center.  Only way the convention center goes anywhere is if its's $100M+ worth of land gets sold to developers.

Call me crazy, but wouldn't this site have been great for the 1000 room hotel seeing as though it would be directly across from the convention center and not have to pass NASCAR. or maybe they can add it behingd the future duke building.

Thats where the Data Center comes in, Duke is selling it and its original HQ, & its literally hemmed in by the convention center.
