a possible design was leaked to me out here in Houston.  It is only slightly bigger 64 floors 901 feet tall carbon copy notice I said carbon of Williams Tower in Galleria area.  Waterwall optional but a good addition since Duke was founded on hydroelectricity.   (this is written in blue for anyone color blind)  part of the KJ listening tour.

Looks like Duke did a press event today at their new space in Optimist Hall as it’s now operational. They mentioned 400 as the number of employees working in that new space. I had no idea it was to be that large. For some reason I thought was way lower than that. Anyone know where these workers came from? Moved out of Uptown?

They moved from uptown mostly according to Duke person I know who is working out there.

I hope they moved from that building next to the convention center so Duke can sell it to the city who can then build a big tall hotel.

Thats essentially a data center. They will move out of that location, but the limitation isn't employee headcount or lease, its actually purchasing new servers and physically moving them to a new location.

bit more info from another piece on the opening of the Optimist Hall space....The new tower is to hold around 3,600 employees  and of the 400 at Optimist Hall, 300 are permanent and 100 will rotate in and out as needed

WARNING THIS IS JUST A THOUGHT NOT THE DESIGN:  I really like this kind of design not too flashy but still got a distinct look.  I know it was discussed long ago 4 corners up to a point and not sure if that is in the picture.    This is the new Frost Bank tower in downtown San Antonio and they are a conservative bank but they are anchoring this the first new office high rise in downtown San Antonio in 30 years!  Let that sink in and compare to Charlotte.  San Antonio and Charlotte are about the same size metro wise and growing at the same rate.    But this is a great design just of course double in height LOL. 

One sideways shot for our sideways shooter back in the QC! That was an accident.

Nice.   Pelli does great work.

I love San Antonio.  It’s a small historic gem like Charleston, Savannah, or Newport.  I prefer it to the much bigger Big D.

That’s crazy. San Antonio has doubled in population since 1980 but zero new office towers from 1989 till 2019. Meanwhile Charlotte added practically its entire skyline during that time

that is why when people nit pick every tower in uptown we should be glad we have so much to discuss on UP in terms of high rises.   SA did add hotels during that time but no new high rise office towers downtown.

Seems shorter than I was hoping, but I absolutely love the design.  I love it so much I wish it were taller/more prominent.  That is approximately 1000X more appealing than BOAT.

This was close to the 2nd design I mentioned a month back or so. The only difference is the slanted roof. I think this looks much better if its going to be a box.

Charlotte Metro Tower!  Developer files permit for construction of 40-story office tower in Uptown Charlotte, with construction to begin in second quarter of 2019.

The lobby will face Tryon Street, with 25,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space planned on the building's perimeter on Tryon, next to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture and on College Street. Retail space also surrounds a seven-level parking deck that will have approximately 1,000 spaces. The architect is tvsdesign of Atlanta, the same firm that designed the Duke Energy Center.

Looks great and it is a good companion to Duke Energy Center. The bottom left corner's unique facade is interesting compared to being all glass on the rest of the building. Also looks like they want their logo on it (understandable). This side of town will be logo land.
