Duke Energy Plaza Headquarters | 40 Story formerly Charlotte Metro Tower

Another outstanding lunch break at the Charlotte Metro - Duke Energy tower, and there is a ton of energy going in to erecting this phenomenal building. Lol 
The weather this week is fantastic! 

Today they were installing this blue temporary facade/screen. I'm not aware if this was preplanned or the result of an incident on the site. They managed upwards of 6 floors (9 inner core floors) without it. But anyway, work is surely progressing on this monster. 
 

I.M.H.O. I do feel that Charlotte is extremely blessed to have all of the construction going on around the city, uptown and elsewhere!

I think the blue fabric is for stabilizing the building environment for curing of concrete. Reduce direct sunlight and wind to allow a cure to meet standards for strength. There may be other reasons also.

Its a safety screening. I think it was planned to be used. No incident. Makes workers safer. Knocks wind down. Keeps materials from being blown off the building. I saw a sheet of plywood almost sail off the JW Marriott when they were building the 18th floor. Would’ve been bad for someone on college street that morning.I think it’s a climbing screen too. It will cover the current floor being built and 2 or 3 floors below it as the building rises.

Also helps contain the spray fireproofing if they're doing any of that.

Watching this sprout reminds me of the DEC (nee Wachovia HQ) in 2007/8 - the formed, poured concrete, the mitred corners of the building, the (ahem ... pace).  Good stuff.

They really screwed the pooch on the Ally "crown". Terrible material choice.

The POS crown is not what angers me it's the box that still sticks 20 feet above it.

It totally looks like some cheap corrugated fence. I am so disappointed with that project, from what the initial design was supposed to be.

We get a high quality precast and glass tower and complain about the last 20' of roof screen...

Duke is sending out notices to all employees that all buildings are on lockdown for a potential shooter uptown right now.

talked to guy with Babson Cook here who alerted me to the crane being raised today.  Several photos of that.  He also said it would be 50 stories but not sure that is correct and I don't argue with strangers *which is a good idea for cyber sites like UP too)     anyway back and front and all walk bys today.   I count 6 floors behind the curtains!

If it ended up being 50 stories that would be a shock. I’m sure it will be around 40, but we will just have to wait and see what exactly Duke Energy is planning since they have not been very clear about it. Could be less or more.

We know exactly what it'll be, all construction plans are publicly submitted and can be found on the pages of this thread.
