Duke Energy Plaza Headquarters | 40 Story formerly Charlotte Metro Tower

Duke has been very hush hush/stealth mode with this build from the get-go.  They released what they had to (image above) for press release and that's about it.  Hell, we don't even know what the back of this building looks like rendering wise, but I think there are some blueprint plans out there somewhere.  Unfortunate that grid facade on bottom left got 86-ed from the initial rendering though.

* Looking closer at the facade, are those actual gaps/indention in the middle and corners of the tower going all the way up?  Or is that different shade of colored glass?   The rendering almost makes it appear like a dual layer facade going on the way up.

The middle sections and corners are slightly indented AND utilize a darker glass.

Does anyone know if there will be any outdoor digital signage going into this project?   Seems like it would be a prime location.

I think that someone previously mentioned that there will be a lighted Duke Energy Signage on this Tower.  I would also suspect there may be some nice colorful highlight to the building itself too although it may only be seen from a few vantages since the neighborhood this thing is being built in is pretty crowded with Towers.

A long, long time ago, RDF mentioned that there was supposed to be a large video wall somewhere on the front facing Tryon...Something like BOAT video wall I guess, however, it was VEed.  That was one aspect of the project that I was excited about in the beginning too.  I guess it was scrapped along with the lower grid facade portion too.

But, if I had just one, rather small request it would be to go less horizontal and more vertical with this tower. Much like the FNB (in person) this building feels WAY too girthy. My suggestion would be 1/3 less wide, and vertical 1006' 70 stories.  A little late now, but a missed opportunity in my humble opinion.

I'm not understanding how that would benefit Duke (and building tenants) both in terms of land usage and flexibility of floor space.  A smaller girth would obviously mean less of the valuable land is being utilized.  And it would also mean less floor space on each floor within the building.  Some organizations would prefer to have all their team together on one floor.  If the square footage on a floor is too small then you end up splitting folks apart onto different floors, which might complicate workflow.

Also, how long until the neighbors are sharing their lack of appreciation for the mirror like reflective windows on this building? Don't the renderings show an additional, extended outer layer to add protection from this affect?
If not then I would expect very soon as one feels as if they are a blade of grass beneath a magnifying glass when the sun is reflecting off the current wall of glass.

I've wondered the same thing.  I  wouldn't want to be on the street level if the sun is shining the "wrong" way, or in either of those buildings with the sun reflecting back and forth.  Poor eyes.
