After the developer let Habitat for Humanity have at the inside of the hotel, the outside was given to the Austin Fire Department for practice exercises.  Developers and AFD have done this before with other demos.  AFD has some controlled burns and punches holes in the roof to simulate rescues.  This demo has been a win-win for everyone except the hotel employees.

This is rather anti-climatic since the developer announced that the project is already underway, but the site plan for the tower was approved and released today.  That means the final elevations will be released within a week or so, and we'll get the official height.  But I don't think the height will change from what we know  now.

Heard today via the SABJ that they have their financing partner for this tower so it sounds like it will be a go.

Yeah, they announced that a couple days ago on the day that was the "official" groundbreaking.  The same developer (Lincoln) now has the 708' Republic office tower with a December start date at last word, and they are the lead developer and partner on the huge We Co. project that has financing/equity from a Canadian pension fund.  The tallest tower (Block 190 office) on that project should be 700' plus as well.  Lincoln is going all in on Austin office space.
