Just walked by this and she is still their, BUT the parking lot is still open and not fenced off where she is. Only the buildings being demolished have fencing around them at this point.

Really, though, I'm very happy they obtained and are starting to fill in this block of all Levine's mess of empty lots.   It's closest to Tryon of Levine's property, between the park and train station, will help trigger a better value for the Hal Marshall land for the public when that gets sold off, and hear is hoping it helps build up the case for the Publix to actually happen a block away.

Off topic, but I must admit I laughed a bit as I was taking these shots bc there was something  sooo (old school) Charlotte about it. Destruction of a legacy building — and one with art on it as well! I was like "ahhh the Charlotte of the 90s isn't dead yet!".   I'm only kidding of course. I'm all for this project, just found this demo a bit familiar from when I used to live there. That said, had an amazing trip this week. Man, Charlotte is killing it and is really turning into the city I hoped it could. Yeah lots of work to go (like everywhere) but the trendline of improvements is staggering to me.  You all should be excited. I was.

In a perfect world this building would have had skinny towers built on either side of it, and the back of the lot would still be engaged to Market street. That's still a utopian Charlotte in 2018.

But I'll take this tower, too! Maybe the next decade post-UDO will be different.

Likely wetting abestos building materials so fibers don’t become airborne during demolition.

It didn't occur to me until reading your post that Lennar is a national company.  That explains a lot!  I live in San Diego and I keep seeing pictures posted on this forum constantly that remind me of buildings I see going up here in San Diego's downtown, which leaves me less than impressed.  Now I know why!  This concerns me, though.  It's as if these national urban developers have some boilerplate for high-rise towers, then go and put up the same buildings all over the country.  They're going to make all our cities look identical to one another.  I don't like that!  I want our cities to be unique with buildings that reflect the local environment.  We already have suburban developments everywhere that all look the same all across the country, must we do the same thing with our downtowns as well?  That said, this the Market 42 renderings look nice.  I just hope -- if not in design, then with building materials and colors -- they can make an effort somehow to make it unique to Charlotte.

I really hope someone rethinks the color.  This is one instance where I would rather have good ol’ Charlotte beige.  33 floors of mustard yellow EFIS is basically my worst nightmare.
