CIM knows how to operate successful mixed use districts with significant destination entertainment components

Sometimes things die out after a long run.  For those who’ve been in Charlotte for over 15-20 years like myself remember the Mythos-Forum-Phoenix-Cosmos-Republic block owned by the Greeks that was super successful before the epicenter and the music factory came along.  It was an amazing destination.  Unfortunately the popularity of it died out and even after when QC Social and Imperial opened it wasn’t the same.  Same happened with epicenter.  But I think crime made it die even faster.  It’s very unfortunate

They should literally give free leases to H&M and Apple for 5 years. It's a Hail Mary and they may both pass but if they didn't they might get lucky and be able to attract other retailers/a crowd.

LOL. Yeah, no thanks. I get to skip the commute, all the general office BS, and “keeping busy” or otherwise filling the void of hours I otherwise would be required to be just a butt in a seat.

My productivity is at least the same if not way better working from home. Glad I will most likely never need to “go back” to working Uptown.

So pleasantly surprised that this project is progressing. Based on the pandemic and the associated problems plus the location, I'd have thought this was the least likely Uptown hotel to move forward.

I agree.  Must be very bullish on Spirit Square.  Come to think of it, between Spirit Square, Library Redevelopment, and Inlivian Housing Project, that's quite a number of construction workers who might stay in something like a Homewood Suites...perhaps?

Homewood Suites and other extended stay properties are even more popular now.  As they are like apartments with full kitchens people working in town for longer time frame they are prefect.  I love to stay at Homewoods as I feel I have an apartment in cities where I go.  Plus the full kitchens allow for eating meals in house instead of restaurants which can get real tiring and expensive when you are gone from home for a while.  Extended stays like this are popular with families too since they have a separate bedroom and living room.  Plus they have free breakfast and during the week have a free evening reception.  (can you tell I am a Hilton Honors member)

Homewood Suites rising next to the Ellis.  Drive bys today.  I sure hope this year 2022 is the year of lots of construction in this area with the new library, the Publix, the new Truist tower, the new apartment tower etc.

100% agree. We complain about boring but this is not boring. The color, texture, height and pattern are pretty unique and interesting. I personally detest the color and materials of the attached low rise but the tower is great (though I also concede why some might disagree). Definitely better from north/south perspective but will be great once we have more density in the area. Hopefully, they eventually redo the facade of the low rise.

I respect your right to love it, even as I despise it.  I will agree that the mid-rise portion is definitely the bigger offender.

For me it's those top four floors that seem to be plopped down haphazardly.  It makes the whole thing look top heavy in an odd way.  I don't hate it though, more indifferent.  I applaud the bold decisions and agree that this will look fine once it's surrounded by fifteen to 25 story towers and not out there all on its own.

Think of it like a tree and the top are the branches and the leaves. At first very direct and stern maybe even uniform but then towards the top you have the beautiful patterns of leaves and branches. Buildings are as much art as a painting or a sculpture. We make statements with design. It is chaotic and interesting. I would argue instead that the top deign were continued towards the bottom and terminate perhaps a few floors above street level.

It's owned by Levine, so I'd say it's on an undetermined time frame.

There was a serious proposal back pre-2008 recession.  Novare had it under contract for a condo tower and TWELVE hotel.

North Tryon area parking lots are a serious detriment to Uptown and it won't feel like a true big city downtown until they're developed. Hopefully we can get something going there. If we need to preserve some parking let's just have one big parking garage and then develop the other lots with useful buildings.
