This belongs in the Levine thread, but there was a Canopy & Homewood Suites dual concept hotel proposed in Levineland. It was going to be 12 floors and L shaped. It was on the Canopy by Hilton Website still at least 3 months ago (last time I looked) its no longer on there.

Nothing surprising. Would’ve loved for a canopy hotel, But I’m sure they’ll find another situation. RDF makes it sound like there are a few pleasing hotel brands coming to Charlotte so I’m excited.

A Levine project would never do that.  They have such business acumen.  It'd be like building an eyesore parking garage on 11th and Brevard that messes up traffic for years and still can't open. They would never fail so hard.

Everything always falls thru on Levine's watch unless he somehow gets convinced to sell the land, like for the park, UNCC, and now this.  

It is absurd how many projects have fallen through his fingers.  But he may not be wrong in the end, as his best incentive is the develop the land as late as possible to get the most for it and the highest density. 

In some ways the land banking does cause a scarcity that helps create the density (imagine if it had all been built up in the 90s, it would have been more like Garden District than the Lennar plan)

Lennar is proving the density can be supported here, so here is hoping Levine finally decides the time is right to sell more parcels to develop out.  Someone else does the hard work of actually building, but he gets to buy low and sell high and go back to sleep.

me thinks I street that could have 1000 future residents might trump one with 6 houses. 3 blocks that'll probably one day have $100M in tax value vs a short road with a grand total of $1M in tax value. I think developers could win this one.

From the Business Journal today hotel site purchased from Lennar.

(NYSE: LEN) that's developing a 549-unit apartment project on that same block. The portion of the site that Concord Hospitality acquired last week for $3 million was anticipated for hotel development""
