Probably counting from the current top floor (a floor or 2 below the core).  I could be wrong...but I imagine that's what they mean.

I agree that this will appear larger than the Batman building. Someone posted a photo of the skyline from the airport and it looks close to the roof height of Batman since the spires aren't as prominent from that location, especially the very tips of the spires that don't have metal cladding.

They've completed the 38th ceiling/39th floor and working on columns to support the 40th floor.  That does not include the core.  If you count the curtain wall at the top, they have the equivalent or appearance of nine more ceilings to go. As others have said, it's going to look taller than expected.  It'll definitely help with the "flatness"...maybe not as much had it been let's say 750'!  I know, I know, we could be getting nothing blah blah blah.

I'm teasing. I just get confused when i read "it's at floor 42" and think the core has three floors left, or when I assume "5 floors to go" means the core is getting 5 floors taller. Haha

The core was at 44 before being raised this morning. It is now topped out.

So...the core is topped out...but they'll still go another 20 feet or so above that with the "wall" to hide hvac...right?

What's with the tall floor up that high?  Not sure I've seen that before in a building.

There is a "break" in the building at that level. The building is designed to allow the top 15 floors to be separate from the rest of the building; thus, those upper units could be sold as condos. There is extra mechanical needs at that level, which is why that level is taller than the other levels. I think it is level 31, don't remember. This is normal to have different heights within a building

That makes sense.  I thought it was strange to have just one floor, 30 stories up, be a bit taller...but how you explain it helps me understand.  I love how they engineer these things.

Won't the core go up one more level? At least partially, for one stair and the elevator over runs? In looking at the plans there is a mezzanine level above the 45th floor.
