Brooklyn Bowl, which was to open this Saturday in the new Nashville Sounds Retail Building, has decided to postpone events in their 1,200 seat concert venue and 19 lane bowling alley "until further notice" due to the coronavirus.

With all the careful zoning laws that have been placed in G'town/S'town, etc. over recent years, I'm surprised that three-story duplex box was allowed right next to those old Queen Anne style bungalows. That's a glaring incongruity which IMHO detracts from the whole neighborhood. I'd expect the new structure going up will more closely resemble the tall box than the duplex than the houses. Unfortunate.

There are many historic structures in Buena Vista (fewer now after March 3), but there is no contextual zoning in place, such as historic or conservation zoning that requires new construction to fit with the character of the surrounding neighborhood.    For example, Germantown has an historic zoning overlay and Salemtown has a conservation zoning overlay.     The Buena Vista neighborhood is under the more general Urban Zoning Overlay, which only requires "MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL, REQUIRING A MINIMUM 6,000 SQUARE FOOT LOT AND INTENDED FOR SINGLE AND TWO-FAMILY DWELLINGS AT A DENSITY OF 7.71 DWELLING UNITS PER ACRE."       Meaning, if you're a developer who doesn't give a damn, you can build two adjoining out-of-character 3-story town homes on a lot that formerly had a single bungalow.

MetroCenter Flats (4 buildings, 3 stories, 118 units) appears to be ready to launch by AH Nashville Development LLC on the empty 6.3 acre site at 339 Athens Way near MetroCenter.  Construction Enterprises Inc. will be the general contractor, with Bernard L. Weinstein & Associates as the architect, DBS and Associates Engineering, and Heibert + Ball Land Design. No renderings available yet.
