According to last month's Nashville Downtown Partnership Annual Report. there are now 70,000 people working downtown, and 11,000 folks living downtown.

Wow so roughly a 7% increase in the downtown workforce. That is huge for the city but also worrying a bit!  Just means that much more congestion on the roads, and more strain on an already rough housing market. Would be interesting to see into the future and know what Nashville would be like in 5 years.

HQ2 would have killed us.

Biggest news for Nashville in how long?

This is the largest single jobs announcement for the state of Tennessee in history. For Nashville, Alliance - Bernstein was the last big job announcement and that was 1,000 jobs

I also recently woke up to this here in the UK lol. This might be the single best economic day in nashville’s history. Not only is ernst and young (a london based company) heavily investing in nashville, but also amazon is making a HUGE investment as well, one that will transform the city for years to come. Nashville being the only city to get additional investment outside of DC and NYC in the initial HQ2 announcement to become a logistical hub for them is a huge deal, and news channels over on this side of the pond have talked about nashville in addition with dc and nyc. I think that the effects of this won’t be limited to just 5000-10000 jobs from amazon (or more since they seemingly will continue to invest in Nashville for years to come), i think because of the manageable investment in Nashville this will make the city even more attractive to corporate relocations on a more global level.  Not to mention the amount of new developments, hotels, and air service this will eventually develop as well. Overall the best news for nashville since i joined the forum. And to think i was worried nashville had stopped growing just two days ago lol.

Yes!  I think this announcement may have just tipped the scales.  I can only imagine that the city is about to boom in a way that was unexpected by most of us.  Potential for growth to accelerate even more than what it's been the past 8 years or so.
