I still am laughing over the fact that there was an organized contingent that wanted to tell Amazon to shove it. Who wants future ready tech jobs! If Oracle comes will be really interesting to see the attitudes especially from the new Mayor's office.

Looking at the workers relative to each floor, I wonder if this building will actually have 17'-18' floors above the lobby.. speaking of which, will the two buildings' lobbies be connected as a single lobby when both are complete? Clearly, their garages will not be connected. No doubt, security is a factor here. Perhaps that's the reason for two buildings instead of a single taller tower.

They settle down to 14.5 at floor 6. I don't think they are connected because the north tower does not start until 5 level above Church of parking.

Much of Amazon's set-up in Nashville will be geared towards their serious foray into the  medical industry.  This feature zero-in on the areas they are most likely to focus on:  Pharmacy,  health insurance,  at-home care, and telemedicine.

This seems entirely speculative. Nothing wrong with that, but just wanted to point it out for those that haven't read it. 

I only know of one person currently working for Amazon in Nashville and they are definitely working in the logistics space as Amazon originally announced.

I was looking at SP and MidTenn1 posted about Amazon bringing additional 5k jobs on top of the 5k that's already planned. Does anyone have more information about this?

There are too many hints at this news from several sources that can't be dismissed. So here it is (still not officially announced).

It has been strongly suggested that Amazon is planning to bring in an additional 5,000 employees to Nashville in addition to it's original 5,000 employee committment. It is publicly reported that they have already reserved first options on space in two planned towers adjacent to the current two that are under construction. Here is a link to one of the sources...the money quote is about halfway down.

Amazon with 10,000 employees in Nashville across a pair of 20+ story towers and a 40 story tower! Nice possibility for sure! We've always hoped they'd call in their dibs on that 40 story neighbor to their twin tower starter complex.  Could be a new tallest for Tennessee! (like if they added a spire to beat out Batman) wowzers indeed

So here’s a question about Amazon and their 5000-10000 employees...

if they’ve known for awhile that they were going to bring in this many...why start with a 20 and 24 story building....when they could have built each of them at least 40 stories and house more of their workers?  Is it because the developers of NYards don’t want to build that much space and later have to lease it all if Amazon decided to move elsewhere?

I’m thinking that the initial splitting of the towers allows them to get their operations here spun up faster than waiting on a single 40 story tower. The parking needs for two 40 story towers would be substantially higher than two 20/24 story buildings, which would extend the completion timeline. As much as I’d love the height, the way they’ve structured this allows them to get into their brand new space faster, and to grow with the rest of Nashville Yards at their pace.

Amazon has NOT been tenants to any tall office buildings, to date. Amazon will be the sole tenant for 600 Bellevue which will be a 600 ft 43 story office building. That will become the tallest Amazon tower when completed and occupied in 2024

Amazon plans to hire 100,000+ displaced workers for their fulfillment centers, and raise minimum wage from $15 to $17 per hour through April.  This will certainly boost some job numbers at their numerous distribution centers around Nashville.  Not sure how this will effect long-term -lans for the Excellence HQ in Nashville Yards.

I am certainly ordering more from Amazon. I have noticed about a 4 day delay as of last week in orders from Amazon Pantry. I have no idea what it is this week.

It's been a source of discussion on the forum about whether the pandemic will cause Amazon to grow even further with their employees and office space in Nashville Yards.  Here are a few stats and thoughts about their growth in the past 2 months:

- Before the pandemic, Amazon had about 40% of the e-commerce market.  It appears that it is now 50% and may grow to 60%.

- Grocery delivery made up 3% of market share before the pandemic and now suddenly stands at 9%. It would be even higher if Amazon’s grocery service hadn’t run into supply chain problems under the sudden crush of families ordering from home.

- Amazon is going to have much more data online and offline of what consumer-packaged goods people purchase. What Amazon is building is this really critical advertising flywheel and feedback loop.

- With more and more people watching Amazon’s Prime Video service, Amazon could expand that advertising business into TV advertising as well. They could poke a hole in that $70 billion TV ad market. There’s a longterm strategy to build up their ad content so they can deliver more TV ads.

- The pandemic has left Amazon helping to supply hospitals and medical facilities with personal protection equipment and other medical supplies. Amazon could leverage that into expanding to supply people’s medications or to become a telemedicine platform.

It is astonishing that Amazon, Google, and Facebook haven't gotten the hammer brought down on them in regards to antitrust legislation. All three have cornered various e-commerce sectors and emerged as completely dominant in their areas. Controlling a majority of all e-commerce is just astonishing, though it seems in recent decades Congress has lost its appetite for trust-busting and I fear we're well in an era reminiscent of the late 19th century when this sort of thing was at its peak (nadir?).

SWVP(Developer of Nashville Yards) has two large office towers planned directly across the street.

Yeah...I think Smeagols or Markhollin could tell you more...but I think I remember that Amazon is definitely building the 2 towers...and then has dibs on maybe 3 more in the development?  Of course, we now have anti-business mayor (as far as tax relief goes)...so nothing is certain.
