Lets not ignore the cute little breakfast place they built just for the heck of it. Home - Summit Pointe

Someone tell dollar tree they are free to build in the SPQ in Norfolk, we need them there!:tw_sweat_smile: They seem to be one of the few companies that has the balls to actually build what they promise, instead of shortening the building into nothing.

Also, that little breakfast place is a nice touch for a small bit of land. Pulls in a good amount of people to eat there.

Neat bird has opened & Cork & Bull is supposed to open next month. Union Taco has been announced as the final retail tenant in 555 Belaire & two more spaces next to Cork & Bull are marked as leased. Not much retail space to lease at this point - hopefully they get started on the next block the first half of the year.

Leasing activity has really picked up and there’s not much remaining space available. On the retail side, X-Golf, a golf simulator bar/restaurant, and a medical spa have been announced for Block 3 with the one remaining space marked as ‘Lease Out.’ For office, Venture X coworking has taken a large block of space on the third floor, leaving only the fourth floor available.

I grew up in Greenbrier and moved back last year. Seeing this growth in just the last five years is mind-blowing, considering I remember when it was mostly trees and the original two-story Dollar Tree HQ. This is the kind of development I'd love to see in SPQ.

I wonder if Chesapeake would consider an arena in this area? Dollar Tree has deep pockets and the development so far has exceeded expectations. May be a good compromise seeing as neither Norfolk nor VB are making any progress in this direction.

It was reported recently that Economic Development is funding a study for a smaller events venue there in the 1k-2k seat range and $20 million for a performing arts center was mentioned in the newly released capital improvement plan - although not funded. The mayor also stated at the SOTC yesterday that an arena or sporting venue has been one of the ideas floated in a potential redevelopment of Greenbrier Mall. Previous reports were specifically a hockey arena. All of this is probably years away if ever though.

anyone know what is in the works across from the Dollar tree tower?

across the parkway that is?

So there’s the strip center that is completed that BFG mentioned but on the other side of the storage facility, at Volvo/Crossways that has been cleared is a 700-unit apartment project. There’s a chance it could be 400 units with the portion closest to the railroad a grocery-anchored retail center (developer has been linked to Publix on another project so I’d give it 50/50). But other than the buildings fronting Volvo, it’s a suburban apartment complex. Planning was able to get the developer to give a more urban feel to the front buildings to somewhat complement Summit Pointe.

Summit Pointe got a news article! 600 Units planned across volvo? Does that mean they are crossing the street?

"The whole Volvo Parkway, in the next five years, when you ride through this section, you'll get more of a downtown feeling,"

This is exciting! Seems like The Mayor and the executives at Dollar Tree want this to be some type of Downtown for Chesapeake.

The apartments will be at the former Mitsubishi site (401 Volvo Pkwy). The project is approved, site is cleared and I believe site work recently began. It’s been discussed in the Chesapeake thread but it is just another suburban apartment complex.

As for this article, they like to keep Summit Pointe in the news even when there’s nothing to report on. It’s done well but there is no indication of when the next block will begin construction and comments from real estate industry publications say they are waiting.
