I have heard on the street that MEC has been delayed because they want I-4 Ultimate to be closer to the finish line so that there is not so much of a physical barrier between Downtown and the project. They want to have the underpass ready with some of the Under-eye project started so that it is a cohesive connection to population, recreation, and businesses on the east side of I-4 so that they can maximize traffic by the MEC opening to coincide with I-4 being done and the Under-eye partially done or in progress.

That sounds feasible, since they don't likely have any pressing or urgent need to hurry the thing up.

I wouldn't be 100% disappointed if the MEC didn't materialize, and some other use was found for the parcel. One which didn't involve the demo of the old Union Rescue Mission building.

If I-4 doesn't wrap up until 2021 (who are we kidding its at least 2022 with all the delays) and they want Under eye moving forward we're looking at what?  2023 at the earliest?

Well, they would be looking to Open after I-4 is finished, not start. This is just what I have heard from my construction business development folks who have been sniffing around the project for future work.

That and they're probably waiting for the downtown portion of the project to be completed as opposed to the entire project from end to end.

That means they were lying when they said they were starting, this month, and constructing the whole project at once.

To clarify, if MEC construction schedule has an estimated duration of 2 years, and the downtown portion of I-4 ultimate/start of Under-I is scheduled to be complete in 2022, then MEC early package/Sitework can begin in 2020. 

MEC would take the duration of their overall project schedule and subtract back from the projected end of the downtown portion of the I-4 project to find an "ideal" start for their project so that the opening of both projects nearly coincide.

very eloquently stated. 

But, as to the substance of what's been circulating out there...

it goes like so:  I-4 won't be done for at least 2 more years downtown...maybe longer.  Their project could itself take 2-3 years to build out.  So, they are more full of sh!t than the Vertical---dare I say...people... and, at least the VMC people are relatively new so they have an excuse.  The Magic group have been around forever, and they've been feeding 'the public or whomever' a bunch of s#$@ for years with their pie in the sky mumbo jumbo about this project.  Their reasons are falsities.  They just don't have the financing in place- and are waiting to get $$$ from the City since Dyer wanted a large meeting hall in the hotel.  That's what the delay is all about, money.

The Under-I project has very little to do with the MEC's viability, IMO.  It sounds nice, but this organization is simply full of it.

...like I said...it will never happen.

Downtown part of I-4 is probably the last thing to be finished TBH.  Much of this highway has one side of the road or both sides of the road already on the new alignment.  Downtown has both sides of the road still mostly in the footprint of the original highway.  The Sentinel just reported today they're still 240 days behind on I-4 (which would push it into 2022).  If this happens we're looking at opening in 2023 at the earliest  (If they're truly waiting for Under-I) which is what I had stated before.  Assuming build time, we're looking at breaking ground in 2020 or 2021.   Far cry from April of 2019 which was originally floated sadly.

I don't believe this is ever happening under the Magic's banner.  My guess is they demo the shelter, hold the property to make it look innocent enough, then sell off the large parcel and try to make it all look like that was never the plan...

If they really wanted to build it in concert with I4 plans and cared about the local neighborhood connection they never would've destroyed the parking garage and first floor retail which could potentially have been thriving over the last few years of magic/OCSC games and concerts years ago.  They want a huge empty parcel to sell.  Maybe that's better - anyone who chooses to pony up for that property will hopefully build something more substantial and sustainable than the they would (let's be honest, if restaurants can't stay open on Church St as is, how is an "entertainment complex" on the other side of I4 going to survive?

Yes, that's true. If Trump manages to dupe a large enough percentage of the gullible, easily conned portion of America for a second time, we could very well end up there.
