Home Rule

Recommended Posts

Since the adoption of Florida's 1968 Constitution, home rule has been one of the bedrock principles. For the past decade, however, the party that has controlled state government for over 20 years keep telling our local officials what to do (and rarely giving them the money to do it.)

If you believe that the best government happens closest to the people, you know this is wrong. What's even worse, the 2022 speaker-designate has gone on record saying he will do everything he can to take power away from local governments. That's probably astute in his case, given he comes from sprawltacular pseudo-city Palm Coast, one of Florida's worst examples of how not to build a town. Perhaps he should get things right at home before telling us what to do.
