The RailYard SouthEnd

That red, red clay. When I moved here after growing up in the Midwest with its beautiful black friable soil I came to a moving appreciation for the grave diggers of this region. To dig 4-5 feet into this hard, shovel bending clay mass and then with just a light rain becoming like tallow and needing assistance to be pulled from the hole seemed a nasty and depressing way to make a living.

I wonder what the “back” of this project will look like

the back is 6 floors of David Furman designed apartments. Should look fine.

Not sure if Love, or absolutely hate.

The insidious bull tallow, the bane of our existence.

This video is great for this fantastic project may not be the tallest but this is destined to be one of the best new office buildings in the city.   Check out that office space fly throughs and views.

If this has been posted already my apologies for I have not seen this until today

No railyard was ever in this area from what I know.  However the southend area was one of the first industrial areas of Charlotte that I do know.  Nebel Hoisery mills aka the Design Center and Lance Cookie and Cracker plant aka Factory South condos.  I had relatives work in both factories.

This is a cool looking project!  But I thought at first the base 2 story sections were renovations to existing buildings incorporated in the new project.  But I guess not, seems kinda fake and gimmicky.  Is there some significance of this site to a railyard??

Gimmicky?? This is how the entire neighborhood should be built out. Look at Charleston and Savannah, hell even Durham and Raleigh. These things can be built to match a turn of the century aesthetic, and frankly to pay homage to the history of this area/district it should 100% be designed and built in that regard.

How do you embed a video like that? You can send it in a direct mail if you want.

Does anyone know if the front of the Railyard will be facing S.Tryon Street or Winnifred Street?
