Site prep work for Center City District in downtown East Lansing began last week.  Center City is located on both Grand River Avenue and Albert Avenue and contains an 11-story building  with 273 apartments and an approximately 23,000 square foot urban-concept Target.  The second building is a 10-story building on Albert, which will contain a 5-story municipal parking garage with approximately 20,000 square feet of retail space and above that 5 stories containing 92 senior citizens apartments.  The alley between the site will be maintained for pedestrian access to all retail.

The tallest building will measure 137 feet tall to its highest point nearly bumping up against the city's 140-foot height limit.

East Lansing small-format Target to hire 80, open in July

EAST LANSING — The first small-format Target in the mid-Michigan area will open July 21.

The 22,000-square-foot Target store at 201 E. Grand River Ave. will be a first of its kind for the area.

Target has opened 100 smaller versions of its stores since first piloting the idea in 2014. The small stores are a way for the company to enter markets where a traditional Target store wouldn't fit, said Jacqueline DeBuse, a Target spokesperson.

The small-format store will carry items including food, personal care and beauty products, home decor and apparel, just like a typical Target.

Brick-work wrapping up on the podium of the Newman Lofts at Center City in East Lansing.  This one turned out better than the renderings, in fact.

The Target has been super-busy since opening.  Landmark (above Target) opened last week:

New Landmark apartments in East Lansing cleared for move-in; Hub still needs city OK

EAST LANSING — The new Landmark apartment complex on Grand River has been cleared for occupancy, with move-in expected to begin on Saturday.

Another downtown student housing complex, the Hub on Campus, still must pass a final safety inspection before tenants are allowed to move in.

Rents:

More than 96% of the units at the Landmark have been pre-leased, Mack said.

Move-in dates at the Hub will also be staggered prior to the first day of classes at Michigan State University on Aug. 28. The Hub complex is over 90% leased with only studios still available, according to Gasperetti.

Monthly rent for a studio apartment starts at  $1,050 at the Landmark and $1,119 at the Hub.

Newman Lofts opened last week.  With that, the project is largely complete save for any interior build-outs that occur in the remaining groundfloor commercial units.
