Huge development news: McLaren Greater Lansing announced this evening that they are consolidating their two south Lansing hospitals, which will allow them an even closer partnership with MSU's College of Human Medicine than before.  The 9-story, 240-bed hospital will include a Karmanos Institue cancer center in addition to the main hospital, and an associated medical office and clinic building.

McLaren to build $450 million hospital adjacent to Michigan State

By Haley Hansen and RJ Wolcott | Lansing State Journal

LANSING — McLaren Greater Lansing will consolidate operations at its two south Lansing facilities into one $450 million hospital on what was once farm land near Michigan State University, the hospital announced Monday.

The new health care campus will be developed on land acquired from the MSU Foundation in the foundation's University Corporate Research Park between Collins Road and US 127 south of Forest Road.

Work on the project will begin in spring and should be completed by 2021. The new campus will be paid for through bonds, Mee said.

This is big news for Lansing since MSU's College of Human Medicine had not really invested in its Lansing home and base.  A big reason for this project is to allow for MSU to be able to better recruit for its home base, nationally, which it hasn't been able to do having divided itself between multiple regional hospitals  They will still partner with Sparrow and such, but this will become the College's flagship campus.

LANSING - Working in a steady drizzle, workers used a massive crane to hoist the first steel column into place for McLaren Greater Lansing's planned $450-million campus in southeast Lansing on Wednesday morning.

The beam is part of 3,200 tons of structural steel that will be needed to support the nine-story facility in University Corporate Research Park.

All 5,200 pieces of steel should be in place by the end of the year, McLaren officials said. The hospital is on pace to be finished by early 2022.
