The July 31st implosion of Carmichael Towers 1 & 2 will entail a 15 minute process. Layton Construction along with Controlled Demolition, Inc. will be in charge via a $1.4 million permit. There will be temporary road closures that day, but they have not been specified yet. A livestream will be available via vu.edu/towers.

The university and the hospital  split from each other in 2016. Finances  are very different for a non-profit hospital than it is for a well endowed university. The university now has more money to put toward such projects.

The controlled implosion begins at 9 a.m., with the following streets and sidewalks closed to cars and people starting at 8 a.m.:

West End Avenue between 23rd Avenue North and 25th Avenue North

24th Avenue North between West End Avenue and Elliston Place

25th Avenue South between West End Avenue and Jess Neely Drive

The demolition is expected to take 15 minutes, with the roads and sidewalks expected to be closed until no later than noon, according to Vanderbilt University.
