Let us hope. It would be great for UCF to have the type of fan-hood that other teams have, but it would also be really good for Orlando.

Go Knights!!!

Its the best shot yet, a national championship should be pretty memorable for the fans that got to experience it. They seem to have a reasonable shot of repeating it this year too based on that first game. I do have to wonder how the CFP will react if UCF remains undefeated with an insane 26 straight wins when they're selecting for this years playoffs...

It will be tough.   UCFs conference looks terrible across the board this year outside of Memphis.

I've also noticed the press having an odd fascination with Boise State. I know they've done well in the past but then so have we. It reminds me of how Texas is always going to make the big comeback this year and, just like this year, they were all hat and no cattle.

I guess I just never paid attention being raised deep in the bosom of the SEC just how little actual science there is in the rankings - instead it's mostly politics (which may explain why Aaron Sorkin's other weekly series running at the same time as "West Wing" was "Sports Night.)

Orlando's Hometown National Champions extend the longest winning streak in the FBS to 15 with a 38-0 win over S. Carolina State.

Charge On!

(Meanwhile, the Gators lost to football powerhouse Kentucky and FSU, after struggling early on, did manage to beat that behemoth of the gridiron, Samford, by 10! We should give a tip of the hat to the Bulls for defeating the ACC's Georgia Tech - great job for our AAC rival!)

Oh, and Coach Frost may regret giving up the warm weather of Florida as his Huskers' first outing was a loss to Colorado 33-28. Here's hoping things get better from here on out!

Meanwhile, Yahoo! Sports has declared Power 5 football dead in the Sunshine State while Power 6 leaders UCF and USF roll on:

It's a whole new world in Florida football.

The Gators are reeling.  They’re at a porn shoot with no Viagra and can’t even fluff as a backup plan.  They can’t play fundamental football.

On the UCF thing, of note, Cincinnati beat UCLA on the road, and Houston beat Arizona on the road.  USF beat Tech...so these out of conference wins, plus the fact Milton is a Heisman contender, and the win streak, may work to UCF’s favor to get in the final four if they continue on.

The only reason I get a little snarky about it is that a Florida that can't beat Kentucky and an FSU that barely beat Samford (Samford!) still have a shot at the CFP while UCF, Houston and USF, all of whom beat Power 5 schools yesterday, have none. In what universe is that fair? The world has changed and yet the gatekeepers refuse to change. Meanwhile, they grouse about SOS when an AAC team that is any good has a ridiculously limited number of choices for opponents. It's absurd but then so are many things in the NCAA (like Urban Meyer being a molder of young men.)

If UCF wins out the season including the conference championship game, they're going to be at winning 26 games in a row. UCF will be tied for 18th longest winning streak in the NCAA history before the playoffs. If they don't let UCF in the final four, I'm pretty sure there will be a huge fight, and I don't think the P5 wants that. Obviously the key is getting to a 26 game winning streak, which means 11 more wins in a row are mandatory for there to be any discussion at all.

There's actually a sneaky Plan B already in effect to gum up the works. Boise State has already magically pushed ahead of UCF in the various rankings. As things now stand, unless BS loses, UCF is going to be left out of the party and not even get the token G5 slot. Also remember FSU, which barely made a bowl game last year, slotted in ahead of UCF in the pre-season polls and just barely beat Samford (Samford!) last night. The fix is in.

There is no doubt there will be lawsuits filed, UCF claiming another national championship likely with at least one poll supporting, if UCF isn't invited for a NY6 bowl with a 26 game winning streak. I mean, at that point, for there next change to enter the playoff, they'd be at a 40 game winning streak, which would mean they're saying they need literally blast through the longest winning streaks in college football history to be invited to the CFP? That would put them #2 longest streak in history, ya know, the literally impossible stuff for anyone to do. That position blows through records set hundreds of years ago when things were sooo much easier. The only slots on that record in the current millennium are Miami in 2000, FSU in 2012, and Alabama in 2015, and they ain't in the top 5.

Interestingly the only team Boise is playing that hasn't already posted a loss this season is next weekend at Oklahoma State so they really don't even have a SOS argument.

And yet, they're getting all the buzz. I guess I'm like most folks and never realized just how political it all was before. Of course, as a Florida fan, I just automatically believed nothing but the SEC mattered for most of my life.

LOL.  he molds young men into bad hitmen that chew grape Bubblicious and spit it 0out on a stakeout of their intended victim, like in Naked Gun with the pistachios, and don't have the common sense to hire a professional hitman with their NFL money to do the job instead.

that is very interesting.  that means that all or most of the pollsters or vote casters in the AP/ Coaches are in on it, right?

There are more than a few people invested in the status quo. At the end of the day, it's all about protecting the money. Every UCF and USF that comes in is going to dilute the pile, not to mention the pool of available recruits. We're already seeing that with the legacy teams like FSU and Florida performing below USF/UCF (10 years ago, you would have been laughed out of the Touchdown Club for that statement- today, they'd just look at you grimly.)

This isn't new - the Florida Legislature had to threaten UF to play FSU once upon a time (similar things happened with Texas schools.) What's different is that there used to be ways around it but over the years they've tightened those loopholes up (with ESPN being a big part as well.)

Speaking of ESPN, they're more than happy to let Boise State become the darling of the G5. Why? Boise State, a thousand miles from anywhere and with limited ability to grow (the Orlando TV market is #18, Boise #106*), has been more willing to play ball according to ESPN's schedule to get attention.

You may remember that UCF did that, too, under O'Leary (remember when no one had any clue what day of the week a game would be on?)

The problem with that is it kills season ticket sales. Danny White, smartly, dialed that back once UCF began to take hold locally as a valid alternative for local fans. Surprise, surprise, ESPN rapidly turned attention away from the Bounce House and back to Boise.

As Deep Throat famously said, "Follow the Money."

Here we go again. Last year, Irma took a hit on our SOS when we had to cancel the Georgia Tech game. Now, it likes we may lose the UNC Chapel Hill game to Florence. UNC is lousy (they got beat last week by ECU, one of the weakest AAC teams,) but at least they're a P5 team (ACC.) And everyone knows how much better P5 teams are than those in the American, right!?! *sigh*

Those dreaded P5'ers and their dreaded weather machine (H.A.R.P.) causing a ruckus again, hurting UCF's strength of schedule yet again...
