520 Church St. | 12-Story Residential [Under Construction]

Recommended Posts

Is that a new rendering?

Meanwhile, I really hope the construction quality of 520 is better than 420. I'm only there now due to having a decent rate for the area and not wanting to leave the area. My apartment however is riddled with lazy construction errors. There's been leaks in my windows. I can hear my upstairs neighbors like they are in my apartment. Doors break, things get clogged. I don't know if it's my unit and I got unlucky or it's the whole place.

I'm confused. Did something happen to warrant the "Under Construction" thread heading?  Not to be dense, just trying to figure out if I'm missing some info/context?

I think someone saw a permit for the lot behind the Jackson to be used for construction work parking beginning in February.  I hadn't seen this new rendering.  Is it's being called the "Californian" now?

I did some digging and it's an old rendering from an ARB meeting.

Not sure about the UC title either. I'll believe it when I see it. I haven't seen any prep work or anything in that location. Still a parking lot.

I put "under construction" because apparently construction is going to start next month, and didn't think this forum allowed people to edit thread titles. So I put "under construction" because I thought only a mod would have been able to change the title later. I'll change it to approved.

Sweet!  I'm going to be biking past it in a few minutes.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. They use that lot as a staging area for basically any work in the area.

They were doing underground work at a bunch of sites around the location today. No idea if it's actually correlated but maybe....

High rise?

Isn’t the definition of “high rise”. 12 or more stories?  I thought I read that somewhere back in the ‘80’s.

I always thought it was in the 10 - 12 story range, but...

  • In the U.S., the National Fire Protection Association defines a high-rise as being higher than 75 feet (23 meters), or about 7 stories.
  • Most building engineers, inspectors, architects and similar professionals define a high-rise as a building that is at least 75 feet (23 m) tall.

75' from the bottom of the highest occupied floor. That is related to code. Personally, I would not call a building under 20 stories a high rise.
