CharlotteWkndBuzz 2467 Report post Posted November 12, 2020 Is it just me or does this feel like the most under the radar project in Charlotte right now? Southend office u/c gets a lot of attention too but man this FNB tower is the first of its kind...mixed residential & office...would almost be the 3rd tallest tower in Raleigh (top 20 in CLT). Bringing a new dimension to a side of the city that has zero height. I give FNB credit, building a bank tower off the Tryon axis on a tiny empty parking lot.

Give Dominion Realty Credit** but I agree. Edited November 12, 2020 by The Real Clayton

When you consider 500 W Trade, FNB, Courthouse Annex and what's possible at Gateway - and if Truist Field parcel ever gets traction... Graham/Trade is going to give Uptown a completely new dimension and vibrancy over the next several years...

tarhoosier 5401 Report post Posted November 12, 2020 What I find interesting about the FNB site is that it is "protected". Bearden, Ball Park, and Stadium are flanking it and provide just occasional use with next to no risk for future incursion. If Stadium is replaced, a newer, better use will occur on that site improving the status of FNB. Rail lines also protect it from any risk or troubling development on its west side. The apartment towers facing it will not have competing grand signs of competitors.

j-man 1548 Report post Posted November 20, 2020 This is turning out pretty nice. The screening looks better than I expected. Not the most interesting but it goes with the rest of the structure.

a2theb 378 Report post Posted November 25, 2020 This building is something else when we have a good sunset. The entire western (northish western) side facing 77 lights up beautifully.

Yeah, they pretty deliberately leave it out of most of the renderings because it is awkward looking, but if you go back and look you can find some renderings showing that the screening is complete. I know this is an outdated rendering. I the new renderings screen it a little bit further, but still have a big unscreened section. atlrvr 4241 Report post Posted November 25, 2020 Hopefully they know something we don't about how quickly that deck will get redeveloped. 2
j-man 1548 Report post Posted November 25, 2020 Maybe they’re planning another building right beside it that would hide it completely. Makes sense. Let’s just go with that. Because this building turned out better than I thought and it would be ashame to see all that exposed deck until something replaces the parking structure next to it. Ugh
SgtCampsalot 4218 Report post Posted November 25, 2020 Bainbridge NoDa (next to NoDa storage) didn't screen their garage. I always assume that they assume adjacent parcels will get developed anyway. Otherwise we'd end up with another Novel Stonewall Wonder Wall scenario (though that corner project may not happen, but the point stands)
